for real, I cant even drive my car normal in wet conditions, its like a death trap. Its actually really scary.

Get better tires, or learn to drive. Its one of those two.
There really is no other reason why. I bet its your tires.

Well if it's not your tires do what I do. It's kind of second nature for me now but it took a while. Leave a little more space in between you and the car ahead of you and when in an emergency braking situation, brake hard release a little and break hard again. Don't just slam it or hold it at the same pressure.
edit: by hard I don't mean pedal to the floor, use enough pressure to stop effectively, gotta stay as calm as possible.

Its not like people with ABS cars are driving around and every time they brake the ABS kicks on.
I have had several ABS cars and only felt it in weird situations like ice or something else extreme.

its the tires
modulate the brake pedal, tap lightly several times.

Maybe you have too much brakes maybe you need an adjustible brake valve

Stop stepping on it like its a roach.
uhh, ABS feathers the brakes, without ABS the brakes compress when you put your foot down.
you have to tap the brakes, let off, and tap them again, and repeat while you're braking to simulate what ABS does.
scoob.

this is true......and non-abs is more amusing in icy situations.

x2 on the tires.
i hate how one wheel will lock before the other... ohwell. i guess thats the flaw of having a rwd vehicle...

abs does not feather the brake.
abs detects a speed difference between the rear axle *on our cars* and the front wheels. when one wheel or both shows a drastic difference in speeds, or lock, it will reduce braking pressure to that wheel initially, until it unlocks it. then will reapply pressure untill it begins to lock. and then back off again.

you need to learn brake modulation and threshold braking :p

do s13 se model's have ABS?

no.... only hicas

Wrong!! I was at pull-apart and saw a non-HICAS with ABS. I pulled the driveshaft, just in case my stock one will not fit.
modulate the brake pedal, tap lightly several times.

i know not to slam on breaks, thats why im so lost, i eased on my breaks very cautiously and i STILL locked up, it was the craziest, and gayest thing that has ever happened to me
i have silvia brakes and shitty tires, probably why i slid 50ft up a curb when i was only going 15mph lol... thanks guys!

Instead of just braking hard and letting off..well It helps me to have squishy suspension. Brake quickly to threshold but SMOOTHLY, increasing your braking force higher as the car "dives" as you dive..more down force is put on the front tires and you can squeeze another inch or so.
Jumping to max braking BEFORE this "weight shift" occurs will definitely lock your wheels. Smoothly and quickly press pedal down to near lock hold it there, let the front end dive, squeeze the brake a little more.

I am going to say tires and\or you need to be more gentel on your brakes...

Speaking of rain..
Late apex is usually ALWAYS the accepted rain method..Brake earlier and do all your turning early..dont apply power until you are on the straightest possible line. Theres also the matter of "driving where the grip is" NOT where the racing line is. You have to consider the line most cars usually take..because thats where theres going to be accumulated fluids..oil...possible road damage etc. Contrary to popular belief..driving off line around the outside edge of the road may even be faster than the racing line is if it crosses a "less grippy" surface. I see this and discussed this with a couple road racers and its in several books..
It could be that you unfortunately happened upon a part of the road that offered less grip for some reason...

I didint read that far. All I saw was "My wheels locked up in the rain" And people telling you how to brake properly.
Its perfectly reasonable that I presented this alternative view point. In any case, You can always compensate for bad tire choices with technique.
If you want to discuss a proper brake/tire combo ..perhaps start a dedicated thread. Im answering the question in the topic "Why do non-abs brakes want to lock up so easily". If you happened upon a bad patch/greasy patch of road ..that would certainly explain it.

ive had the same expericance, ive learned from the mistakes though.
Ive learned to yes (feather the brakes) but recently ive learned how to get on the brakes pretty hard and not have them lock up.
it was when it was snowing (all it was at this time was rain)
and i thought icould beat this light, i judged the distance wrong so i got on the brakes, i was seriously praying i wasing going to skid into the middle of the road.
but sure enough i put alot of pressure on, i got off a little bit when i felt the car slow down alot, and then i pushed in more, like i was pushing with my toe so i wouldnt lock the car up. its almost similar to practice, but you better learn quick.
and know the limits of your car.

Learn to drive better overall. Wait till it rain and go to a parking lot and practice to get the feel of your car. You know it better than anyone here. Good luck and be safe.

my car is not abs and even with dry wrotted stock 205 i have to try to lock them up
JJ if you want my honest opinion its that piece of crap welded diff you kids love to drive. It's not good for DD, it'll mess with braking in a sense that when you try to drive straight your shit just "chops" or however your welded diff chunks, not that I've ever driven one but I know enough of what I've seen and rode along in that it's a p.o.s. in certain weather conditions on top of the normal p.o.s. conditions.

mike you think my welded diff is a POS? ;)
its not your diff.. that post was dumb lol. i have no problems ever braking with non abs. ive never locked my brakes up...
check your tires.

I think it's a combination of things, and the fact he drives on poopy tires.
