I don't agree with the bailout plans at all. I think we should have let those companies go to shit. Let them face the consequences of their actions.

Government meddling in business got us into this mess... the only thing that will get us out, is Goverment reducing corporate taxes so they can hire more people, and turn a profit... so they can reinvest, and expand... From small, to medium, to large... businesses all need money to reinvest, and expand... without money... you don't have that. You are not competitive, and you go bankrupt and collapse. And then people are out of jobs... can't buy homes, cars, luxuries, anything... let alone food and paying their mortgage or rent.
Also... stop taking so much freaking money from me to run bullshit programs that have no effect!
Lets get this straight though... I don't expect goverment to solve the problem they created... they've never done that...
They "Change" the problem... they never solve it.
The only part the goverment plays here is tax/spend.
Their spend is WAY beyond their ability to tax. Their tax is already a large part of the problem... their part in fixing this, is stop spending, and reduce taxes...
Because, sure I got a livingroom set from Bush in his 8th year... but I probably could've got that myself a lot earlier had I not been taxed so heavily. Government is not the solution.

This stimulus package is not for YOU and ME its for the economy bro..the stimulus package will be pumped into the economy itself ..so businesses can keep doing business, and banks can suspend foreclosures..did anyone catch that obama has already forced banks to suspend all foreclosures? Do you know how much that helps the people? The overall economy gets the money, and by suspending foreclosures he is helping americans who are hurt the most get time to recover.

When everyone started hoarding all their money in belief of a "bad economy" when all the money is in our accounts, its NOT going to businesses to say..make your bread, make your car parts. If you just keep spending money businesses will still be able to produce goods.
"I want to buy this..but I shouldnt because the economy might become bad.." and what do you know...some place goes out of business..but everyone still has their money, no big deal.

What Obama is doing now is a necessary evil. These plans to stimulate the economy are our last ditch effort to save a free-falling market. This downward spiral was initiated by the policies created by bush and the people he appointed (namely alan greenspan). I must tell you... if you don't like obama then it's because either a. You disagree with some of his moral stances (abortion(probably the most legit anti-obama position)) b. you are a big-time capitalist or c. you're going more off of some kind of emotional rejection, such as how it makes you mad that all the black people love obama.
There really are not any intellectually legitimate arguments against Obama's policies as far as ECONOMICS. Other topics are a different story, especially the topics that are completely opinion (again, abortion). For the most part, Obama is doing all that can be done to try and stop our economy from getting any worse than it is now.

I just quickly scrolled through the thread hoping Dave had posted about this..
Anyway, there were studies that showed that people were more likely to spend if given an extra "$13" or however much each paycheck, as opposed to one large rebate. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the amount spent per dollar given back was higher when spread out.
There are many other parts of the stimulus package that will provide more money for health care, allow people to stay on unemployment longer, especially in states with the highest unemployment rates, and more money per month for families that receive food stamps.

Personally I see this as a very bad thing... This does not motivate people to go out and find a job.
It's actually a good thing. Keeps people off the streets which is worse for our society. Yes there are people that are always looking for a free hand out and take advantage of the system, but there are also a lot of people who need this to help them get back on their feet during the tough economic time we are in.
Not everyone is lazy. Did you see or hear about the long lines of people trying to get a job at the new Kia plant in Georgia? There were people lining up at 4am last week just to be able to fill out an application. It's people like these that need and deserve unemployment. take away the support and you just make it harder for them to get a job.

As someone who's studied Economics, and is a student of history and government... I'm going to have to disagree with you there in a major way.
You don't know what you're talking about if you can't find a legitimate argument about why a goverment shouldn't resort to massive defecit spending in the middle of a crisis... in fact... there are MANY legitimate objections... and if you knew anything about economics, and oh my, CAPITALISM... which umm... we're that... then you'd know, for a capitalist, consumer driven economy... there are stupid ways to fail, and intelligent ways to succeed at stimulating the economy...

But it was not his housing policies that caused the sub-prime crisis...
He caused the FAILED Iraq war... get it straight. Clinton and the Democrats caused the sub-prime crisis... not to mention the trade deficit with China and giving them MFN Status... which was great for their economy.

actually, yes... this bill has stimulated me... and even given me hope.
most of these democrats think that if they do this, they will expand government and secure their seats of power. i think the exact opposite will happen. i think anyone with half a brain knows the truth and will see it. i think the bill is political suicide, especially with the fact that the president BLATANTLY LIED about the fact that "there is no pork in this bill" Obama is breaking promises left and right.
