first off lets keep this thread clean.

with that being said...
how to drift?
Im no newb at drifting, ive done my research and ive done my practice but what exactly is the proper way?

When i would do what i call the slither, (back and fourth and back and fourth)

it feels as though im not smooth at all, like im all over the place and not a specific pattern.

and i am starting to drift in a RWD format
(dont ask how i did it in any other format.)
its just i feel im not smooth and im sketchy.

how do you other guys do it?
examples of turner field??

and no parking lot, mountain drift storys.

Are you talking about techniques? or where to do it legally.

techniques, like what you guys use??

and i would like to know more places to do it legally.

this thread is not going to be clean for long, but clutch kick more

i know keeping a thread clean in 240atl is impossible but i just want to try to keep it clean.

but even when im in the midst of a drift, clutch kick??

and i exprenced when i shifted into second i got more sideways and idk if a bad sense of pussyidus came over me and i jsut kinda slowed down but i mean i got "more" sideways then i was ya know??

Yup that is prolly your issue...

Just make sure when you fuck up you are at a track or another event lol

SED events; there's one on saturday at the Turner field parking lot. If you have a helmet, just ask people to ride along with them and observe they do. That's what I did at the Triple Threat events I went to.

Smoothness can come from steering control as a noob. A lot of people on this site will tell me I steer too much, but being a noob I find it the easiest way and I will probably learn to work the wheel less as I improve.

Its simple really, in a stock powered 240 you can practice this by simply sliding full throttle and focusing on doing everything with the wheel mid slide, the two fundamental things mid slide are..

return the wheel towards center if you want the car to rotate more (to get rid of the understeer)

and counter-steer to keep the rear from rotating too much.

Ive ridden with people who are JUST starting and I see that is very common, they either go for high angle and exceed the limit of what steering can do and spin, or they will start to slide and as the understeer picks up, they will roll on the throttle instead of reducing steering angle which will make it plow worse.

Look at it this way, theres two ways to make the car rotate more, Take away rear grip, or give MORE front grip. unless you are a master of throttle control, its always easier to give MORE front grip by "demanding less work" from the front tires, IE return the wheel to center.

And then there's simply returning the wheel to center as quick as possible when you feel the slide is about to stop ALWAYS DO THIS. Reason being, if you return the wheel to center too soon, all you will do is spin and if its not a bad spin you can simply add countersteer again and try once more..if you fail to do it at all, you will snap ... thats why people go all over the place and hit things..

As far as starting my slides, I use clutch kick , power over. If a car has strong understeer (like some of my other friends 240's WITHOUT urethane bushings and blown shocks..and less power) I will usually use the foot brake quickly and forcefully to get more angle ..but thats AFTER I have clutch kicked or w/e and have SOME type of rear wheel slide going on...after that its all full throttle and steering as I discribed. Unless I transition and that would be snap off throttle ..only time im not on the gas fully.

Even lala might be clueless he is correct.

If you let off it will mess up the balancing act and you will spin out.

The best way to learn the techniques though is to go to an event and ride with people that know what they are doing. There are ALOT of very talented drivers on this site that will let you ride along.

Not entirely sure; I just borrowed a friend's extra helmet. Ride alongs are supposed to be $10 though.

I think they are free

I believe the helmet has to be DOT approved. Just about any bike helmet or brain pan you can find a summit or walmart is going to be approved by DOT.

DOT approved, and $10 to ride along, $5 to spectate

chuki? that last statement.
i'd like to learn smooth transitioning as well, thats also my weak point
but can you just apply what you said before that when you transition, or is it a little bit different??

im deffiantly going to go watch, asked off for that day, and i'll just have to find a helmet.

it does make sense, but i have come to realize that when i slide a little bit in my pasture

yes ole' mcdonald lives on a farm

but some of the weight transition has to do with letting off the gas sometimes ya know??
but i guess thats at the end of a slide right??
or am i wrong again??

Walmart or summit racing

i guess im going helmet shopping tommorw.

yea that would be freaking great, like 5 dollers every ride?? or i give you 5 dollars and i can get your approval for every ride along i see or what?

and its your helmet and i understand, i'd be the same way if i had one lol.

Yes you can apply what I said to transition..Infact that's pretty much how you do it..at least How I do it.

I will keep the slide going with throttle and steering, when I WANT to transition I just snap completely off the throttle very quickly and ride the slide out while keeping the wheel turned. At which point Like a gun with the hammer cocked, Im ready to slam the gas to WOT as soon as the car hints at snapping the other way, and quickly add countersteer. Wether I go to full WOT or not depends on how hard the car snaps..but its usually wide open throttle because of the lack of power.

yea, $5 and use it anytime if i say yes cuz im riding too, ill point out the good drivers also

and to get better with courses, always look ahead and aim for that direction

ahh i see, i see
but whats WOT lol

and thats what i was kinda expirementing was throttle control, like you said towards the end of the slide i would let off the throttle and i would get more weight to the other side almost.

and are you driving at the turner field event??

I edited that last post about transitioning. Read my changes if you would.

No ..I just started a new job and I need to get my vert running before I attend events. I had every intention of going to the early events this year..but None of my jobs came through and a project car ended up in my lap..I live in Alabama BTW so having a seperate daily is important to me.

Oh yeah, WOT= wide open throttle, When you hear that "click" that activates the WOT switch. lol good thing about WOT is thats a seperate signal..whenever that sensor is touched by the pedal the ECU knows its in WOT regardless of TPS readings..so if you have TPS problems drive full throttle guys :)

Maybe! Im gung ho about doing my vert up right...im estimating at least 3k for motor set, mounts, down pipe, Top and rear window, and paint/wheels I want to do all the painting before I put the engine in the car..but I might settle for just getting it running so I can chill for a bit and come to events.

that sounds like a plan, i'd rather settle with a nicely running car with a shitty exterior then vise versa.

I see a lot of miss information and or non helpful information.

Come to an event and get some real instruction and learn by doing. Reading this stuff on the forum is not going to help much.
