Y'all were KILLING me out there today. The black SR'ed kouki is exempt from this post.
But holy crap y'all gotta work on those launches! It's all child's play after that but I can't stress enough how poor some of the driving was today.
Where to start...and I am sorry if I come across as an asshole to some of y'all, but the one thing all day that stuck out in my mind was the black KA24 kouki that TURNED AROUND ON THE DAMN TRACK TO GET TO THE RETURN ROAD.
ARE YOU SERIOUS?! THERE WERE STILL TWO MORE TURNOFFS! You're lucky you didn't get kicked off the track!
That's it for starters...I'm eager to see Travis's (broke240) thoughts, as well as Jim (MongolPup)

the track was so unpredictable, it would be tacky then soft, street tires suck dick too

I raced an SR 240 at the track last time I went and smoked his ass...
I put about 1 car on him on the launch, missed 3rd and still beat him.

my buddy ran a 13.2 with 2nd gear slipping almost completely out sideways, pretty rad but sucks cause he wanted mid to low 12s

Ya if you dont stick a good launch it is almost impossible to get a good time.
My 60 fts on that day were about 2.3 due to 135F track temps, the fact it was commerence, and I only had my 225s on.
With a 240 you guys should be able to get 1.6-1.8s all day long.
I can pull a 1.8 with my FWD...

It didn't help when that piece of shit 80's G-body Buick ran, that it smoked down the entire way.
Street tires aren't great for drag racing, but I've pulled FAR better times with my setup (4 year old, bald Falken ST115s and stiff-ass HKS coilovers) compared to what some of the guys today were doing.
Y'all gotta learn to drive, for real.

Oh how I miss the days of Commerce.... Sorry to hear the peeps werent representing properly. Last time I went I won best reaction time with a 0.008 :) It was sweet, only ran a 13.8 but still had a good reaction time. Let me know the next time ya'll want to head up there, I would love to get back on the track. Better luck next time! And dont worry about it Kouki Krisp, spectators say a lot of bullshit all the time....especially my girl friend :)

the track sucked! im a very good drag racer but that track was very unpredictable. the street outside the track would have been better. it was very sticky at the start but then very slick as you got further down the track. i launched at 4500 and bogged. then i launched at 5000 and spun way to much. the track was very poorly set up. if you did not have drag radials (which i didnt) then your not gunna hook nor get a decent launch. i couldnt see me buying expensive tires to race once. i was barking 4th gear down the track. it was retarted. my second gear would not catch at all. just overall upseting.

Yeah, I love how all these drifters think drag racing is soooo easy and anybody can do it. Hell, my bone stock KA with shitty street tires probably can take out a lot of these guys! lol
I proposed a mini one day drag school (mainly concentrating on 60 foots)....perhaps people will take a second look at this. This basically consisted of rented parking lot and pro light with printouts of 60 foot. A good launch is the most critical part of a good run.
For the guy who went backwards on the track...you are lucky some really fast car that lined up quick was not already running when you turned around. Read the damn rules....PAY ATTENTION.....I know for a fact that not everybody turns around at the first turn. If you have any questions, a track official will be more than happy to answer your questions.

I was at the race, and I am the guy with the black s14 with a SR and a Kouki front end. I can vouch for a lot of guys that were there..... It was there 1st time EVER!. So try to lighten up. And the track prep was good for opening day. I drag race a lot and realistically you cannot expect to run amazing times if your car is not set up for it. Im proud of everyone who tried, and next time all will improve... And dont forget, this is supposed to be fun!!!! Also if you have questions, or need pointers... just ask. Look for someone who is also racing, I promise they will help you.

turning around on the track made me LOL. how do you expect those 800hp crazy cars to stop and turn off at the first one...like 100ft past the finish line. haha SDR never has a decent track. 2 cars oiled down the right lane and they never cleaned it up. thats why the top end of the track was slick, some damn BS right there. you wanna see a awesome track, head over to Carolina Dragway aka "The House of Hook" The problem with SDR is all the street tired cars. Street tires and drag radials pull the rubber up off the track, leaving bare spots. Carolina is the opposite of SDR, there are a handfull and street tired cars and an assload of slicks.
here's a post i made a while back on another forum:
Boostbeef's 10 rules of the strip: (aka Drag Racing for Noobs)
after the past few weeks of going to track I've noticed we have a bunch of new drivers coming out so I'd like to give some advice.
1. It's common courtesy to only light the "pre-stage" (first amber bulb) and not both before the other driver pulls up to allow him to get ready. once the pre-stage bulb is lit, the other driver has appox 33 secs to pre-stage, after both bulbs are lit, he only has like 7 secs to line up.
so while you don't do a burnout and just pull up, maybe the other guy does. allow him time to get ready.
2. The water-box is for wetting tires for burnouts, so if you are not going to do one, please pull around. if you are rwd, go around and back into it and only spin the tires a little while in the box, and pull forward to do your burnout.
3. if you are on street tires, a john force burnout is a big waste of time and money and will actually hurt your time. just a little spin is all you need, cause you're not going to hook anyways. doing a burnout and backing up and doing another one and another one will not help either. just one will do and even with slicks you don't need to do a very large one.
4. pants and battery tie down! 2 most forgotten things when you go to the track. if you race a truck, empty the bed and if you like to go muddin', try to knock any loose dirt off.
for a list of required by NHRA parts look here: (these are a little old, but the rules are pretty much the same)
http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/nhra_legal_rules_regulations_time_brackets/index.html
for rules regarding roll cages:
http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/NHRA-legal_Roll_Bar
5. you're suppose to anticipate the green light and leave as soon as it flashed up, so you actually need to start going appox when the third amber bulb is lit. pro tree is even more work, anticipating the 3 amber bulbs. it takes a normal person .200-.250 to react, then you need time for the car to rollout, thus in order to get a perfect .500 light (.400 for pro-tree), you need to leave before the green light.
6. the return road is not drag strip #2, please keep speeds down (i think the limit at SDR is either 15 or 25mph)
7. make sure your a/c is off and windows are up. not only does the a/c rob hp, but it also drops water on the track.
8. cooldown, hotlapping is for 15yr old retards, do a run, throw a bag of ice on the intake and chill and watch some racing for 20-30mins. plus remember the air temp is a lot cooler at 11pm vs 5pm, so try to get the car in best shape for one final try.
9. problems on teh strip = PULL OVER OUT OF THE GROOVE! don't make the rest of us suffer after your oil cooler/tranny/rad/etc sprung a leak.
10. be prepared. things don't always go right at the track, so have some tools, a friend, at least a cell phone in case of trouble. most other racers are very helpful if you need help.
keeping these things in mind, and asking people for advice once you're at the track, will make yours and our experiences at the track more enjoyable and faster hopefully.

Good post, I guess some of us just know how to drag better than others....lol. Honestly though I think the bikes are to blame more than anything. The cars never had a chance to ruin it. REPS+

They let the bikes run WAY too many times. Total bullshit, IMO. Bikes got to run what, 6 or 7 times throughout the day? I think the most passes that any of my friends made was 4, but most only had 2 or 3. If you wanted more than 2 runs, you basically used the staging lanes as cooldown.

Wow, the tracks down here suck balls..... In MI, I could make 20-30 runs on a given day (at my favorite track) with making timing, tire pressure, etc. adjustments.
There was a much more popular track there too, but you were much more limited with your runs and I dont think it was as sticky.

well, with SDR, everyone goes the first few weeks, realize that the track sucks ass, and then goes to other tracks. lol

Spot on about the oil on the track Jonny. I don't understand how they could see the smoke and the next 4 or 5 cars get squirrelly in the SAME EXACT SPOTS, one of them being after you've let off on the throttle and still not think something was wrong. Beside that though, it was a good afternoon. Watched some nice cars (and those MONSTER SRT Jeeps), hung out with some chill people, sounds like a good Saturday.
And Peter, I'm not sure what you wanted me to say. Every car/engine/driver is different, and I won't be ignorant enough to make some offensive generalizations. I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, but here is what I saw:
Trailored in (and admittedly ragged out) Kouki made a good showing on our part. Get some slicks and you'll be set, you already had some good passes. We spent time trying to figure out if the driver of the gold Zenki was the guy on this site or his girlfriend. The cute dual JDM Kouki's ran slow, but that's the KA for you. The first thing we saw when pulling on the grounds was the guy turn around on the track. I thought it may have been a depth perception trick, but then I heard everyone asking what the hell the guy was doing.
Aside from that, it's whatever. A Civic board should feel worse about it than us, but at the end of the day I can't really say anything. My car has never on any kind of track, and it'll be a bit before than happens in a serious situation. I love anything called the "House of Hook". Enjoyed seeing the Supra at the shop and at the house. The shop was bigger than I thought and dude did good work. The wing is actually on the car right now, but we'll see how long it stays there.

A 240 drag day is a great idea!
It would be nice to get to talk launch rpm's, tire pressures, diff's, and just general experiences with drag racing 240's Instead of what seems like endless trial and error lol.
And Dave if you need a ride just let me know.
