i guess i have the luxury of hearing most good and bad reviews of places. Simply as a neutral person. Ive heard bad about every shop. And a ton of good about every shop. sure inform the people of your experience. But its just that. Informative. It wont go very far. Especially with the reputation local shops have now.

I went in to look at a motor and caught a bunch of flack and BS from Derek about the history, condition, etc of the motorset. To be honest it was pretty obvious (to me at least) that it was still on the cherry picker after being pulled from a customer car. Thats not the story i got when i asked Derek about the motor, and basically got treated like SR's come from the land of rainbows and unicorns. I didnt appreciate it, so he suggested I take my business elsewhere, and I did. I happened to be dropping parts off for Kyle, and upon picking them up I pretty much got the worst customer service ever from Derek. Again i didnt appreciate it. Case closed.

He is also slightly picky with who he does business with. If he doesn't feel you're worth his time (not monetarily related) he won't do business with you.

Personally I think you're both great guys. I know him a lot better than I know you but you seemed like a pretty respectable individual. You also seemed like you could come off the wrong way if you didn't feel like it. Maybe you could give people a little more credit before sizing them up. It might get you further.

Derek's a great guy. He's one of the most loyal people you'll ever meet. He'll go out of his way for you, to the extreme of he would rather give you the food off his plate so you can eat, than eat himself. He's one of those people.

That's why I work for and with him, and will continue to do so for a long time to come.

Derek will treat you fairly and lay down the rules from the gate. He will give you the free will to do or say anything. He will give you the opportunity to get over on him or help him, and based on your answer/actions you are placed into the category of friend or deuschebag.

When you've made that deuschebag decision.....you can totally forget about it. You will not ever like Derek from that point on.

If you've been genuine to him since the gate, you know what i'm talking about and you've witnessed it for yourself.

I had never heard of Kudzu until I saw this thread. It seems like a decent site if you're looking for a good restaurant or something ... but for a performance shop, it seems pretty worthless.

i dont know anyone from Lethal but i will say this, i ran 2 shops aka first point of contact. I was the office man, the scheduler, consulter, etc etc etc

It can get VERY frustrating and stressfull as a great percentage of the "kids" you talk to waste your time. They are dreamers, have no money, want to talk to you for hours on end about shit they are never going to do, etc etc etc

These guys are a BUSINESS, which means that are trying to MAKE MONEY. there is NOTHING wrong with that.

Its hard to be 100% satisifactory all the time as there is a great deal of stress involved. People have off days. There was more than a few times i would be semi rude if some kid asked me for his 11th estimate in 7 days and then got mad when i was slow to respond to him.

Not saying its right, but hey, it is what it is.

I would go out of my way to help people, and make sure they got the most for their money cause i wanted them happy in the end. Ask Decker.....

But the "good" customers are few an far between. Most people want the most power for the cheapest price, then bitch when something goes wrong. Nothing you can do can please them.

Ive made so many sacrifices working for private shops its rediculous. I sacrificed my financials, my relationships, friends, health, etc to see a business do well. I remember coming in the day after thanksgiving to fix a kids h22 Accord, staying at Batlground till 4am CHRISTMAS EVE cause the guy "had to have his car back".

I worked from 10am-2am ALOT of times.

Then people start to use you as the "hangout". They start expecting "deals" cause you know them or said hi to them once. And if you try to run the place as a business, you get seen as an asshole. Alot of these guys deal with what small businesses deal with every week. Its easy when you work for a big corp and you know you work you get paid. I know VERY SUCCESSFULL businesses that have trouble meeting payroll cause kids dont pay for their cars on time yet hound you 10 times a day that they "need their car back".

The whole experience ended up being too much for me so i left it all behind.

Just keep in mind these guys are there to provide a service, an that service costs money. And remember we all have "bad" days. Theres alot of shit that comes with running a performance shop, so keep that in mind.

I already went into what happened and never mentioned price, but I also didnt mention what I specifically didnt like about the motor so I could see how it could be construed as a money thing. Interesting thread... I feel like adding my 2 cents about Lethal.


As you know, I'm way down in Savannah. I don't have the ability to browse threw all the local ATL speed shops. I talked with a couple of people, And was recommended to Lethal. At this point, I started talking with Dave. He has been a HUUUGE help answering all my questions. I would not hesitate to hand them my keys and let them work on my car.

With as cool and as helpful as Dave has been, Someone could cut his prices in half. I would still take my business to Lethal.
