View Full Version : Input on Double Din Touch Screen Head Unit
So I'm in the market for a double din touch screen head unit.
Heres the things that I can't live without.
Big Screen! Not many buttons. I want 7" screen or so...
MUST have GREAT sound quality and atleast 50Wx4
Blue tooth for cell phone
USB/Card reader capability
Navigation Ready
DVD Out / Video IN
Front / Rear / Sub outputs
Satellite Radio Ready
Remote Volume Controls (If possible)
Voice Recognition (with remote button possible)
May have forgotten something but thats mostly it. This is one that has the looks that I'm looking for. Its slim edges and large screen:
This is the JVC KW-NX7000 (which is a possibility)

Any others that might fulfil my needs?

One thing I will suggest is staying away from units that require a DVD to be in the player to use the navigation. Its a PITA and makes it impossible to listen to a disk while driving with navigation on.
I would also go to C-Net and view their ratings on the unit, as well as search for a video showing how the GUI and menu systems work. I was real close to buying one unit then went there and saw how the menus worked and it was horrible.

Wow I didnt' even know that some made you do that. That doesn't seem very intuitive... haha.
I will definitely check c-net. The menu and GUI is a big thing for me as well. I hate the units that have really nice features and then have a text interface for the radio or something like that. My current unit is that way although its only a 1 din with a tiny screen for the dvd player...

Hum. I didnt' even think about a hard drive as an option. Thats a good idea.

Ya man, this junk was horrible. I read in reviews that it was bad, but once I saw the vid it was a no-sale for sure. You can find usability videos for most everything on Youtube nowadays.
I think I like this one:

Looks to have everything I need...

My friend has a Kenwood DVD-Nav in his CRV, it's pretty wicked and will even play videos and stuff off his ipod. It's one of the higher end models and I can't remember which exactly but it was $1000+ but he got it fof ree somehow.

That is the one my dad has in his truck and it is much better than the avic n series that I have. It is hard drive based so you can play cd and dvd's while still have the navigation the only draw back is that you can't play dvd's while driving but there is a bypass that can be done so you do have that capability.

Nice. I'll be doing the install so I'm sure I can just bypass that when I put it in... They usually hook it up to the ebrake or something similar so you can't operate certain things while driving.
