I think the issue here is not really the money thats owed, but that you owe money, and think that favors make up for all of it, if they did, that needs to be established at the time of the favor. And that you owe money, but keep buying new shit for yourself.

I've owed people money, cut them a huge favor, and they're like, "Hey man, dont worry about the cash" and other times, it was just that, a favor, but just remember, favors don't always balance with monetary shit.

The point of a favor is doing someone out of your own kindness without expecting anything in return, ecause a true favor is always returned later on, but when you expect it, you set yourself up to get let down. Just some words of wisdom Ive learned over the years.
