My buddy's bmc is leaking between the booster and the bmc. i know theres not a gasket between there. So does he need to replace it? its torqued down all the way.

Yes, there should be no fluid leaking from it...even if it was not bolted down and just dangling there.
You're talking about in between the BB and the BMC where the 2 nuts are the only things that bolt it up?

A leak is a Leak
The bolts do nothing but hold the cylinder to the booster.
So, it needs to be replaced.

The rear seal on the BMC is what's leaking. There generally is a gasket there but its only to keep dust out of the booster/BMC, it there is fluid there the BMC is bad.
