Don't get me wrong, if it was between a mint 98 Red Kouki SE, never been in a wreck, factory 5spd car, and I mean mint with under 70k on it, it would be hard for me to choose a Cobalt, but, goddamn, when the Cobalt is worth about double any 240 in trade in value alone, use some damned sense people.

fuck gm. i got one brand new off the lot in 04 for my wife and heres the outcome. i broke it in properly and changed oil every 3k (gm recommends 7.5k).

14700 new transmission- warranty
18xxx battery- warranty
19000 battery- warranty
20000 main engine harness- warranty
25000 transmission (again)- warranty
42000 battery and alternator- $500 out my pocket
ever since the alternator no probs yet
not at 62000

moral of the story... dont buy a gm. even if youre a mechanic and know how to take care and afford a car its a waste to buy a gm. i had to fight for all those warranty claims because they said i didnt break in the car properly. i went their in my honda uniform and told them to "fuck off bc thats bullshit. i broke the car in properly. look at my uniform. im not some 17 yr old who cant drive. just because i didnt bring my car here for service doesnt mean i didnt service the car. 14000 miles and needs a tranny?" so yada yada ya i cursed em out for an hour until they said theyll fix it but itll take a week to special order a tranny and i got free oil change and free service maintenance up to 45000 which i never used. stay away from gm!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too many variables involved. I would take the new SS over 95%+ of the shitbox 240s. It handles, brakes and accelerates better than any factory U.S. 240; perhaps better than any factory Japan too. However I agree with Wes; I would take a really clean and/or fast Kouki over the Cobalt.
