I recently got a diff out of a j30 and i'm pretty sure its a helical lsd.
Can this be? Or am i just imagening things?
Any corrections or confermation please?
David.

Vlsd _ viscous.
Should have an orange sticker that says that on it. Or turn the half shafts and they should turn the same way.

You see thats the thing.
I pulled it out at Pull-A-Part and it was missing the halfshafts that come out of the diff.
So i only pulled the diff with no pumkin.
It looked like an lsd and i know all j30's came with one.
i get it home and put in my axles and give it a spin.
Then i realize, "oh fuck", they spin the opposite way of each other.
How can this be?
But i know helical's are like that and my friend was with me and he know's a lot about everything car related and he said that it is a helical.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you need different output shafts for an HLSD. So if you put it in your stock pumpkin, with stock output shafts, I doubt its an HLSD. And the fact that J30's didn't come with them.

Looks like a VLSD to me. The center section on the S15 helical diff is a lot thinner, and your diff looks identical to every other VLSD Ive seen (fat center, big circles, with the notches opposite the ring gear end).

Could be, probably 75% of the ones you find are work out anyways :)
