I bought an s13 blacktop from http://www.jdmaddiction.com/

Not to happy... I was told that it would be crated and on a pallet. It arrived on a pallet yes, but no crate! It was covered (not wrapped) covered in a few trash bags. The entire block wasnt even covered. Only the top half was. The clutch and flywheel are rusted like hell. I was also told that the wiring harness was completely uncut. So far i have found 2 wires that are def cut. There are some pointless numbers and letters writton on the head with a paint marker and that shit isnt coming off soo far... Bleach didnt work so ive got to find something else that will. It came with 2 belts.... and 1 of them is broken and was underneath the engine and the pallet. Do not buy shit from JDM Addictions.

Most motors arrive just on a pallet, with plastic wrap covering it.

The clutch and flywheel are rusted? Did your motor not come with a tranny?

The wiring harness could have been cut by the previous owner. Like the oil pressure sensor or something like that if he replaced his for an aftermarket unit.

Don't be so quick to judge, which wires exactly are cut?

And also, most motors have writing on the top.

Also, you (or I) would want to replace belts, hoses, spark plugs, etc, before I put the motor in.

Yea it came with the tranny. it just wasnt connected. and i was going to replace the belts, plugs and wires anyways before i put it in so thats not so bad. I dont mind if its covered with plastic but it was barely covered at all. Youre right though its not bad at all. I was just quick to judge.

Yeah, I hear you on not being covered well. But you never know what could have happened during shipment.

I wonder why the tranny wasn't connected though? Did it come with the lower harness for the tranny?

Tyler

What would that look like?

hellfire
05-31-2007, 06:31 PM
Yeah, the KA harness should work. I would have to compare two side by side. I've never been in the position to have to use one.

I do know a KA tranny works on an SR with a SR bellhousing, so that must mean the sensors are the same. Then you just have Starter, Alt, and Oil Press.

What would that look like?

It goes along the intake side of the motor. Alternator, Starter, and tranny sensors.

Why would you want a 6 speed? More shifting, slower car, easier to break.

and the s15 6 speed tranny's are weak as shit !!!!

i have heard many, many times that the Sr & Ka trannys inside are the exact same, everything is the same...except the bellhousing

hellfire

Yeah, I am fairly certain they are.

And his combo wouldn't work anyways, he would need:

KA bellhousing + s15 sr 6 speed tranny +ka24de motor + turbo = 6speed ka24de-t

Try using simple green to get that paint marker off. Just make sure you clean it off really well when you're done. The guy I bought my SR from had written stupid stuff all over the valve cover and simple green and a little rubbing with a rag took it right off.

Zane98S14
05-31-2007, 11:11 PM
wouldn't the S15 6-speed run like shit with the KA? I've talked to people who ran ka trannies with SR's and the gearing is all weird so its funny to drive. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm sure if that proves true the converse of an SR tranny on a Ka would also be true..

Cash
05-31-2007, 11:14 PM
The gearing is very very similar. I'm about to buy a KA transmisson for my SR b/c my transmission now is about dead. The only way you'll notice a difference is if you're cruising at like 120+mph, there might be a slight difference in gas mileage.

Yeah, definitely real quick to judge, I have done over 30 swaps in my days, and on a pallet and wrapped is the way they generally come. At least they were nice and removed the tranny already for you, hopefully they sent the bolts though. A couple of wires cut, no biggie. Rusted clutch and missing belt, hopefully if you're taking the time to do a swap, you spend a few extra bucks, and replace all of the belts, resurface the flywheel and buy a new clutch. If you need a clutch, let me know, I have a hook-up at comp clutch, I have used them all, and love Comp. And I have never heard anyone dry about the paint pen markings on any motor, Purple Power! As for JDM Addiction, I know Eric and the guys down there, and I guarantee you they didn't send you crap.

Yea I think thats kinda shitty to trash a buisness before you even fire up the motor. who gives a fuck what it looks like, You didnt buy it off an factory line.

Focus on getting a good quality motor and trans, you can make anything pretty on the outside.

from what I've read, they actually aren't that bad to a certain point. but why not just go for the VQ swap if you want a 6 speed so much? That's starting to sound more appealing to me every day.

i dont see any one with a 6 speed tranny here. but you hear left and right oh my friend had this and it didnt work out, this and that? have you heard of the good one? no. why? because you dont have one.

they arent as bad as it seems. there is one in my basement and i have experienced with a few of them on race cars, especially the JIC magic s15 and the DSG s13. they are not the strongest when you have a 400-500 whp motor yes. but i ve never experience one go bad from daily driving. only hear it from idiot people who cant drive properly on the streets.

my neigbours and friends who daily drive their s15's still hasnt blown their trannys yet. and they bought the s15 cars brand new.

Lone_Wolf
06-01-2007, 03:14 PM
how many miles are on them? What kind of power are they making?

v-empire
06-01-2007, 03:31 PM
they bought the cars brand new, around 1999 or 2000. its been 7 years at least.

they are not the strongest but they are reliable, put it that way.

i had and evo that grinds when i shifted. but i also had one that didnt, since i didnt borrow that one to my business partner who always tries to launch and is a moron when he drives.

when a few of them breaks or grinds, its been put out of its element and not designed for it. then people start to assume. yes, that race conditions already. what do you expect. the trannies ae designed for 225 hp to the crank. at 350-400 whp with lsd???? clutch kick, effort wasting launches? get a tranny thats designed for torque then.

when we roll, we roll 70 deep, evos and STIs and we all know who drives like a moron and who doesnt. does are the ones that break. racing is different, you push it hard, thats why we expect it to break and hope for the best.

magazines....lol. do you know who these writers/editors are? i know some of them...and they call me and my friends sometimes asking what to write or opinions, when i still worked in shops. alot of them are just normal people like you and i who writes and take peoples opinions. they could be factual and they could be opinions, thats why they interview people. coz they wont beliable as a jack ass. its still coming from others. i read the other day that the z33 6 speed trannies are stronger than the z32's on paper, 4 articles btw, and another write up saying otherwise. hmm......i will tell every z33 6 speeds are better?
pathetic!

i ve seen z32 trannies hold up 650 whp drag cars reliably.
z33's are stronger? i would have to see this one for the money. then i make a decision. after a few vehicles who have done so. including myself.

you want opinion?? do it right and watch it break, a few times and then come up with you own thessis.

lol.....

rob from turbo magazine, josh from scc, and another dude that also calls sometimes was from some scca road magazine i dont remember.
met these guys at hill climb, and races and they did two or three photo shoots at location.

my point was do not take things to heart as concrete from reading. they are not always certain.
proving something thats harder to bolt-on and hp testing..... is always up for questioning. its weather you want to take the risk or not. are ebay turbo the shit? how well do they perform?

well let me tell you this......you ve heard over and over again. but do you test it out yourself? most of you no...

we bought two ebay turbos, two different sizes....we actually spent freaking money despite people saying rubbish. you never know till we try them. we expect them to blow, but we want to see how long......or how well they perform.

we bought the cheapest set of cams we got and compared them to the most expensive bad ass reviewed cams ...we test them. i got my answer.

most people get them from reading. you need the source of where these answers are coming from. original sources.

always take it as reading material and something to discuss. but dont make assumption that is concrete immediately, thats it.

good luck.

No disagreements, but that's easy to say when you have the money to spend. We rely on writeups and what we read because for a lot of us, hooking up our car has to come after everything else, and when we spend a dollar, we want to know that we did not just light a match to it and watch it burn. For some, tried and true is the only way.

HKS dogbox. It's only like what.. $10,000? You can't beat that!

Anyway, I'm going to be buying a new transmission for my SR this week. I'm getting a KA transmission from Russ. Ugh.. my stock one is more fucked up than a can of worms at a bass tournament. My transmission grinds more than a stripper on a pole at the pink pony. I love analogies. Anyway, I'm hoping a new transmission, new throw out baring, and master and slave cylinder will fix all the grinding. It sucks not being able to drive my car hard.

You just swap out the bell housings. You don't have to mess with the internals in the KA transmission. I'm gonna unbolt the bell housing from my sr transmission and bolt it onto the ka transmission.

if andy is asking how much shipping was for my motor it was 150 from fla to ga but it varies by state. and if its shipped to a residence its an extra 100 and 75 to use the drop gate. I had it shipped to a buddies shop so that it was shipped to a buisness. if its shipped to a buisness then there is no residential fee. I bought it on a thursday and got it the thursday after that.
