Well I was talking to a friend today are we were talking about the fj20. For those of you that do not know it is a 2.0L DOHC 16 valve 4 cyl. that came in the s12 gazelles and DR30 skylines. I just wanted to know why people do not think about this option when looking for a motor for a 240. They are great motors. I guess it could that there isnt as big of an after market but still. I just wanted to see what you guys and gals thought of the FJ20.

Discuss....

LOL fixed.

Jhot can get them. They are the only people I have seen with them. They go for about 1200-1500 bucks with everything.

They make 200hp.

They are one of the fastest 4cyl. down the 1/4 mile in australia and stuff. People always put them in 510's and z cars.

Lets do it. They make around 400-450 really easy. Dont have to touch the block at all. They also have a magnesium(sp) head!

I wonder if people don't consider it an option as much because they're such old motors. I know most sr's are pretty old, but fj20's are even older. I'm just guessing there aren't a whole lot of them out there with low miles. I really have no clue though because I don't know much about them. That's pretty cool that they have a magnesium head though. I'm with omgtofu, are there any websites that have specs on the fj20?

i was thinking about it back when i owned a "s12" with vg30e. wikipedia had some info on them at one point. once considered the best 4 cylinder

The Nissan FJ series engine was a straight-4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight-4) DOHC 2- or 2.4 L (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litre)internal combustion engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_combustion_engine) produced by Nissan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan) in the 1980s, first in 2.4 L guise as a rally motor for the 240RS, but then later de-stroked to 2.0 L for general production models when the 240RS could no longer race. The 2.0 L variant was used in the Nissan Silvia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Silvia)/Nissan Gazelle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Gazelle)S12RSX, and DR30 Nissan Skyline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Skyline). The 2.4 L variant was used in the S110 Nissan 240RS (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nissan_240RS&action=edit). While a 1.5 L variant was designed and a prototype built, it never actually went into production. It is acclaimed as the forefather of the CA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_CA_engine) engine. It has an aluminium head and an iron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron) block (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_block), and was available in Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan) and the UK. It was discontinued in the late 1980s due to its prohibitive cost. It is most like the CA series because of the cam-over-valve design and iron block with lightweight head. The SR series later replaced the CA in 1991 with its more economical to manufacture rocker arm type valvetrain and aluminum block.

The model came with a maximum output of 190 PS (140 kW) (it is 185 PS [136 kW] in the S12) and the intercooled versions produced 205 PS (151 kW). Boost pressure to achieve this power output was only 6-7 psi. It was installed in the DR30 Skyline RS and RS-X and S12 Silvia RS-X or Gazelle, the RS-X versions of the DR30 being the only models which were intercooled. The plenum chamber was shortened in the S12 compared with the DR30 because of the smaller engine bay and produced slightly less torque and power compared with the Skyline. However the DR30 plenum can be fitted into the S12 engine bay (just) and this combination is used by what is currently fastest S12 gazelle RSX in the world, a 2600 lb vehicle which runs 9.12 @ 153 mph over the standing

Jhot had an fj20et with FMIC hks fuel rail all wiring ecu blah blah for like 1300 bucks. If we talk to jhot I am sure we can got them. I am really considering doing this swap. The motors make shit loads of power. And I friend told me cause the mag. head, you dont have to worry about head gaskets. I forgot why but I am talking to him and I will find out. I am looking up tranny specs and all that right now. I will keep you updated

That sounds neat, someone go for it. I'm already knee-deep in my swap, otherwise I'd consider it.

Bruce & I have been talkin about this swap for a few years now...when fj's do pop up on ebay, they're a little pricey, but our biggest turn-off is parts availabilty...

But it'd be hot to see someone do this! :)
