I enjoy listening to pretty much anything, but my favorite stuff is heavier, more edgy type stuff. My favorite band this week is 'Protest the Hero'
I play the piano, alto sax, but my pride and joy is my guitar (been playing for about 13 years) Over the years I've played guitar and done vocals in 2 different semi-successful bands.
So what about you?
What kind of music do you people listen to? Favorite genre? band?
Does anyone here play an instrument?

Anyone else hate country music?
hellfire
05-27-2007, 06:28 PM
I used to. I then transferred to Loganville Highschool (Country) and was forced to listen to it all the time. It grew on me. A lot of country tells good stories, if you listen to it. And no.. Not just about dogs and tractors. LoL..

Country just sounds annoying to me. Some of the lyrics are good, but the music is not for me. Also do country guitarests not know there is more than just the key of G?

i listen to lots of random stuff. some of the crap i've been rocking lately has included ak1200, really old jimmy eat world, silversun pickups, dieselboy, early november, clipse, ltj bukem, and some hatebreed.
i've been playing music for a while now too, guitar for about 13 years (have a collection of 7 along with a ton of amps and stuff), drums for about 14 (got a old school vintage slingerland set, although it's been in storage for the past couple of years), and also played around a little with mixing, bass, and piano. music is fun :).

Nice man! I play alto as well, but I haven't played it in about a year. I also play bass and guitar. Music wise, once it's not country or "rap" i'd listen to it. aaand my current favourite bands would be Rilo Kiley and Aqualung at the moment.

I listen to alternative. Fell in love with it back in the early 90's and nothings changed. Only thing is I've recently discovered techno/dance, etc. that stuff is cool.
Old country music = cool
new country music = ehh not so much

ohhhh .... polka!
Im pretty gangsta.. haha not really but i listen to anything from rap to steve miller band. I like all music as long as its enjoyable to listen to and there is some what of a talent involved. I play drums too. woot.
I play guitar. Well, I haven't really played that much within the last year, but, I used to be in a couple of bands, I play a little bass too.
And when it comes to music, I like anything, and pretty much everything. Favorite all time band would be Nine inch Nails, or Rage Against the Machine, just because NIN always has a song to fit my mood, and RATM always seem to get me pumped up. Lately I've had Devil without a Cause by Kid Rock, in my car, and I don't give a shit what anyone says, that was a killer album. And I love some Johnny Cash, and some Prince, and The King album by T.I will go down for me, as one of the greatest rap albums of the past 10 years. Hell, I like all music, if its got some kind of flare to it, like, it doesnt come off to me like some generic bullshit(IE 3 doors down, half the new rap coming out of ATL), I'll listen to it.
Eh, music is music, my family always listened to crazy shit, and I usually hang out with a lot of different people, so I hear something by everyone.

Fuck yeah, After the Burial is awesome. If you read their blog/"more info" on that link, they explain how the breakdown equates to pi with the time signatures/counting methods of different cymbals, guitars, etc. ATB isn't really mathcore though...mathcore is more of Dillinger Escape Plan, Into the Moat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1apIcQeBo0), etc...that kinda shit.
But yeah, on topic. I play bass guitar, and I listen to literally everything except country. I respect country, though, and I like a lot of southern-influenced hardcore "i.e. Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, etc."
My favorite kind of stuff is punk, hardcore punk, hardcore (traditional and non-traditional), ska, death metal, deathcore, and...some pop punk every now and then. XD

For Piano, I enjoy Tori Amos immensely.
Tori Amos - Winter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWmETxWM0h0
Tori Amos - Cornflake girl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZsqWDgeHqA
And if you play sax of any kind you have to love Kenny G (Even though alot of musicians consider him a poser and a sell out or some shit?? Dunno what thats about)
Kenny G Sentimental - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw9jXvH1PYs
I dont have any favorite mainstream bands at the moment...Mostly Vocal trance is on my playlists right now.
I have a 6 string acoustic I got for christmas years ago...I can hardly play it ugh. My fingers just cant cut it. I do play the Irish Penny whistle with marginal success.

I want to learn this song
I luf Irish Music ^_^

Its actually a very easy instrument to pick up and learn to play simple songs and add flare to them.
The difficulty becomes exponentially harder with more complex songs like this though...when you have to worry about "Half holing" to hit your accidentals, Your sharps and flats etc.
This is the song that made me get the Tin Whistle. I learned the song in about a week with the help of some Tabs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE1Zo5Ljws0
And Tinwhistles, "good" quality entry level ones are only around 10-20 dollars.
I would get a Clarke Sweetone in D Like I got first. D is the most common key for tin whistle music.
I also have a Feadog C whistle.
Its cheap. So buy some to just fiddle with. But just remember, a Flute on the floor is a flute no more :-P
