View Full Version : Safety Hazard?

Hey guys, I have a question and have become frustrated trying to find the answer to it. So, I'm going to swallow my pride and just ask. I just recently purchased front 26mm Z32 calipers for my S14. At first I thought they were 30mm because the salesman at the junkyard told me that they came off a 92. So I purchased 30mm rotors, new pads, and z32 brake lines. Now, when I bolt everything together the caliper sits too far back and is locking the rotor down. After some research I found that the 30mm rotors will physically fit inside the 26mm caliper but the caliper doesn't sit far enough forward in relation to the rotor. So what I did was place a washer in between the caliper and the spindle so that is caliper sits a little more forward. This combined with a few cuts on the brake lathe gives me a perfect fit. I have driven the car and there isn't any scrubbing.

My question is this: Does this pose any kind of safety issue when I take my car to the track? I've been driving it daily for a few weeks now without any problems, but I'm not sure how it would react on the track under constant heavy braking. In my own little head, I would think not since the caliper isn't floating it's all locked into place. If anyone has any insight on this matter, I would greatly appreciate it.

Not anymore, he machined them :)

Just get new rotors man, its better than brake failure.

Who me?

I have sigs disabled so I wouldn't know...

I don't think you would have an issue. People make brackets all the time for brakes, and if all you need a is one washer to push it out that extra MM, I wouldn't think twice about it.

I would say pretty inventive... I'd be more worried about locking the brakes from hard braking...

AS long as everything is still in line and tight, I don't se where you could have a problem.

if never seen anyone do that using mismatched (26 to 30mm or vice versa) swap. it might be ok now as a dd but i dont think it would handle any heavy loads. i wouldnt take the chance or risk to find out the hard way. skyline/300zx brake use the same brake pads for all years so you can keep the pads. i would just buy some new rotors to fit it correctly.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. The washer is acting like a bracket (which as tyler stated is a normal thing) and your maching the rotor down to be 26mm thick. So to me, all I'd do and double check to make sure that the washer is enough to make the caliper split the fence on the rotor.
