My speakers are blown. Need to put new speakers in the doors of my S13 and was wondering what the best speakers I can fit in the doors are, without seriour mods.

I bought my car with 6.5" round components with 1" tweeters in the upper door panel. All you need is a peice of wood with a 6.5" hole in it and bolt it up to the big hole in the door. Ebay also has adapters which would be best.

Yeah, I would upgrade to 6.5" speaker and get some adapters of ebay for like $10. Are you running an amp? I got some alpines recently and I am just running the factory head unit. They sound great. However, since I do not have seperate tweeters, I could have perhaps benifited from the speakers with rotational tweeters.

the door size is 4x6.
if you have the means to mod it to 6.5 you will not be dissapointed :D

i have polk 6x8s in my S13 doors with adapter plates.. no modifications.. i added some dynamat around the area.. INCREDIBLE mid-bass response. don't need subs.

I have heard the polk 6x8x they are fantastic. Where did you get the adapter plates for them?

i custom made them out of MDF. :) it's quite easy.. trace the template of the stock speaker holder.. and then cut that out on the board.. and trace the template for the 6x8.. then cut. it's a close fit but it works really well. you will not need subs in your car for good mid-bass with this setup.

Thanks for your help everyone. I wasn't sure the 6X8s would fit, now I know the will. I'll pickup some polks and some MDF.

make sure you add some dynamat on the door metal around the area that the speaker is going to be located. The 6x8 with decent power will flex the metal and cause some strange noises.

With my setup.. you can feel the 6x8s hit on the lower notes on the floorboard of the car.

with the larger speakers can you use the OEM door grille or do you have to change it?

Yes. As long as you use 1/4" wood.. you are fine. Just make sure the tweeter part does not protrude out too far. You also have to be careful with the depth of the speaker (ie. magnet size)
