now that we have to use a four point harness what is everyones solution for mounting it? if you dount have a cage or some kind of harness bar i cant really think of a good place to mount the belts. i am getting a cage but not untill augest. so i was wanting to find out what everyone else is doing.

my 4point harnesses are mounted using stock safety belt mounting points for both the front and rear. now that i have a cage the driver side is hooked onto it, but my passenger side is still mounted using the stock safety belt mounting points.

i have a cage:bump: i have a 5 point harness but i dont have a seat for the 5th point.....

the only think about bolting it to the floor is ive i heard that it will break your back if you get hit in the rear. but the nico thing makes sense.

see when i worked on a race team for a couple years i was always told that the belts should not be at more that a 12 degree angle and that they should be mounted no more than 8-12 inches from the back of the seat. so that it dosent crush your spine or act as an rubber band on impact. i talked to my friend that is a fab guy and he offered to make a killer harness bar that would have four attachment points and you can still have your seats and plastic panals(with some cuting) for $350 but i need to find some more people to get one so it is worth his time.

yeah i dont think im gonna have passengers this event. its prolly better though. in comps your not aloud to have passengers so its prolly a good thing.

just my imput. dont get me wrong. i love to give people rides it makes them wanna get a car and start.

yep agree. no passenger if you cant cover their safety adequately.

I disagree, Marcos said that is fine so Im still doing it. Passengers dont bother me unless they are over 200 pounds. lol a 3 point harness and stock seatbelt and a helmet is fine come on guys...

This is true, but is case by case and will only stand for this event.

As a driver we all need to do our part in helping other drivers learn. The best way to learn is to ride with the best. Dont go the cheap way and just buy a driver side seat belt and say I wont allow passengers. Allowing passengers in your car is a duty we all due for the community not being able to uphold that will not allow you to drive..

Ill only do it for this event Marcos. Im working on getting money together for a harness bar or cage. Tyler is selling me his harness bar soon. I just need money. Thats all not trying to half ass anything you know.

But thanks for the exception!

See you all at the event!

What if the passenger is a vegetable, do they need to wear a harness?

You know they make a harness bar just like this already. Search for NRG Harness bar.

*Edit* I did it for you. Its the same one I have, looks good, works well, and is cheaper then $350.

to be honest you could actually make a harness bar with a mig welder and steel pipe..it wouldnt be pretty, but you get the idea.

Although this is a fair alternative, i would much rather have a nicely built welded in piece for an extra $100. Much more solid, and you could always build off it later to add on more points for a full cage.

very true

good point. i would rather have something that i can add on too later down the road than to have to upgrade something i already have.

If you just weld in a harness bar B pillar to B pillar your more than likely going to cut it out when you do a cage because your going to want to put the main hoop along the B pillar.

Nick Jeezy

good point

i didnt even think about that...

i would just save for a cage then....

hellfire
07-08-2008, 04:08 AM
Right, I was going to say the same thing. You cannot make a harness bar that you can turn into a cage later unless you already make the main hoop.

if you build just the rear section you can add to it later and run a harness in the meantime.

I picked up a 5 point harness, and a seat.

I ordered a 4 point autopower, but it won't be in till next month.

I found a way to mount the harnesses that will pass tech.

done for now.

Theres several ways to mount a harness safely without a bar.

i put mine on the c pillar? i think its the c pillar, its the one behind the driver. and I passed tech so Im sure thats fine.

A pillar is where the windshield is, B pillar is at the end of the doors, C pillar is at the rear window/windshield.

He had it attached to the upper seatbelt mount on the c-pillar.

I changed my mounting points to the bolts that are used for the child safety seat mounts. It works much better. I was told to do so by the mad scientist.

Thats what I plan on using for this event. The c pillar mount makes the harness load incorrectly.

is bolting them to where the back seat was ok?

I would just be mindful of the angle of the straps.

Blake

you dont need a harness bar
there is lots of ways to do it
you can bolt it down, where the seat bracket meets the floor
you can bolt it somewhere where the backseat used to be or still is
you can make a little hook comming out of the floor(friend did this works good)
dont waste your money on a harness bar
if anything get a rear strut bar and make it work with that

fuck it who needs a harness its more fun to fly side to side in the car anyways i like to see if i can knock that car out of gear its fun little game

you are missing the point ^^ and i dont think any is really thinking safety here, just pass tech? most of the listed mounting points are SUPER wrong angle. if you were to wreck with the harness bolted nearly verticle it wouldnt do anything... you would just hit the dash..

harness is important. no wearing one , its like refusing the hand of god holding you safe and sound..
