I have a few questions.

How do I get this:

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii244/bigjacsoc/Car144.jpg

Into this:

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii244/bigjacsoc/Car143.jpg

I've tried to get it in but the ring is too big.

Also what are these plugs for and for the ones with just wires and no plugs, can I splice them into the harness?

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii244/bigjacsoc/Car135.jpg

And what's that hole on the bottom of the tranny in that last pic for?

ive seen people use just needle nose on the rings
and the sensors i think one above MPH one is RPM im not sure and another should be like a tanny temp maybe.
most people dont even use them just the MPH which is the hole on the bottom missing the sensor

bigjacos i thought you had a auto.

needlenose pliers will get the ring in.

the plug in the very left is a speed sensor i think
One of those plugs is for the reverse light

Lots of answers commin

First, put in the the shifter in the hole, then put in the other c-clip that you should have for the shifter in first, this will slide in.

Next try and jam one end of that clip you pictured into its retaining crevice inside the shifter hole, then use some big pliers and squeeze it and use a screwdriver to push it in ther when you have it small enough. Sometimes it can be difficult. Just work at it.

Next, the hole in the rear of the tranny is for the Speed sensor, you need to buy one.

and last, you can splice those sensor wires into your harness, but its best to get some more plugs and splice the plugs on so you can easily take them off if you need to.

Those lugs are the Reverse light sensor, 5th gear sensor, neutral sensor, and 4th sensor

ohh nvm!! that is where the speed sensor goes.

you doin 5 speed swap?

slip n slides14 travis gets that c clip on like in 2 seconds. he got it on off and on like 4 times for me lol

Is there an RPM sensor ??

Slip N Slide S14

Is there an RPM sensor ??

Why would a RPM sensor be on a transmission?

RPM has nothing to do with the tranny,

Tranny spins at totally different speeds than your crankshaft

So this is where the speed sensor goes?

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii244/bigjacsoc/untitled3.jpg

If so then how to I connect it, does it plug in or do I have to splice stuff?

And if I don't use a 5 speed ecu then what do I splice the other sensors into?

the speed sensor will push in that hole and then will be held with a 10mm bolt

You can hook up reverse and neutral sensors even if you dont have a 5spd ecu, when you get a 5spd ecu yo can hook up the other 2

http://www.ka24development.com/cwilfert/S14_tranny_swap_electrical.html that link is for an S14, the colors and all are diff, but its the same principle. Use that info to finish your wiring, easy.

I dont know, i just do things correctly the first time. If you want to do it wrong and see what freaks out, then go for it.

If I get the ECU and the lower harness then will I need the plug that goes into the back of the clutch pedal?

Nothing happened to my CA swap, but I didn't have reverse lights. Only sensor I had installed was the speed sensor. Make sure you have the hole plugged at least unless you like dumping tranny fluid before you even get a chance to crank the car.

Also, don't forget the metal plate between the flywheel/tranny and block.

did you read that write up?

It answers any question you can possibly have.

No, you do not "need" that sensor, its for cruise control like i already told you. and a loewr harness will not help you with anything except for plugging into the speed sensor.

Your car was not wired for a manual reverse light switch, not wired for a 5th gear sensor, not wired for 4th gear, not wired for a neutral switch. The manual harness has nothing to plug into. You have to make your own harness for all the sensors not he tranny and run those wires to where they need to be. The only thing that is the same is the speed sensor and you can use your auto lower harness for that.

Then what happened here?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v422/neejay/CIMG1326.jpg

So which one is the snap ring for the shifter? Help I'm confused! By the looks of it if I put the one I have in I won't be able to get it out.

holy hell i remember when i learned the snap ring things.

i was explained one time about them.

and it made sense.

why does this not make sense kid?

big ring goes on the bottomput the lower plastic section of the shifter in the tranny. then stick the snap ring in there
push it in straight down. so that it will bend the ring inwards.
then push downward and roatate into place. use leverage to your advantage.

the second ring holds the shifter in.

no i bought one from tyler. it was too small so i bent it outwards and it held in great

you dont even need the rings in thre i drove without both of them in there for well over 4 months. :P

As your knob? That's what I was thinking about doing until I got a real knob. I don't like the stock dildos.

I like the Nismo black aluminum but I can't imagine how hot it would get from the sun. I was thinking about duct taping a Mountain Dew bottle upside down or something stupid to hold me by.

What will happen, or won't happen, if I don't get a 5 speed ecu and connect the 4th and 5th gear sensors?

Nothing. when I was SOHC, my tranny had no working sensors in it, and drove fine and threw no codes.

If I get the ECU and the lower harness then will I need the plug that goes into the back of the clutch pedal?

Nope, you dont have to hook up the inhibitor. My hatch doesn't have one. It's really a safety precaution more than anything.

Wes hooked me up with it. :)

Yessir.

Aren't there supposed to be holes on the ends on the snap ring? Did they snap off or does this go to something else?

Nope, thats exactly how it came out. Ive had some trannys that had the holes, some didnt on that clip.

Yessir. I wouldn't mind selling my short shifter and going back to stock, and just cutting the knob to make it shorter, and rethreading it honestly. I just cant find any of my spare stock knobs.

Thats cause your ghetto as hell. Get a knob sir, please. :)

That golfball knob was gangster, Casey.

Aluminum knobs get hot as fuck. I have one in my RSX. Literally, I burned my hand on it one day. I like it, cause its heavier than my stock one, but shit, some days I have to like, wrap a towel around it when I first get in the car.

The man with all the answers? Thanks. I think I may just get the leather Nismo knob. And I would rather do the ECU and not half ass it. I would rather be able to say truthfully that I did my car full assed.... with the exception of my coilovers.

If anyone has a 5 speed pulled and not connected to anything could you do me a favor and put it in 5th and then into reverse? My tranny doesn't lock out reverse from 5th and was wondering if it just does this while it's not connected to anything. It would be greatly appreciated and you will earn reps if you let me know what happens. Thank you.

the three sensores i don't know what they are but i was under my car checking it out and i hit the middle sensore and it fell off i was like wtf but that was like 4 months ago and it still works fine for the shift knob i have an aluminum one in my car and i cut my shifter way cheaper and easyier than a short throw its been like that for like almost 2 years and it works fine and warning if you do get the aluminum shift knob bring ice that shit gets hot in the blazing sun i was coming out of school one day and it burn't the shit ot of my hand
