Mustang vs 240?

I'm still confused about what happened. I went out to get my flywheel resurfaced and then to 92 to find a job. On the way back there was a newer blue Mustang behind me going from exit 7-8 since I live in towne lake. So he's still behind me all the way down Towne Lake Parkway up to where it meets Eagle Dr. So we're in the left lane and then the split comes up and he gets in the right and passes me and I get over and follow. I don't think there was a GT symbol on the trunk so I guess it was a V6 even though is sounded pretty deep. As he passed me it was obvious it was mommy or daddy's car because he wasn't even 18. Keep in mind that I still have an auto and his was a stick and I was behind him at a light and I still kept up with him. I don't know if he's a pussy or if Mustangs are slower than I thought but we came up to Eagle Watch and he was still on it! I switched lanes and flew by him. Then he started to gain on me and then I started to pull on him again. Then he really slowed down because he hit the brakes coming up to the big hill aka speed trap. So I slowed down to about 50 and he still didn't catch up yet. Then I hit the brakes to slow down and come up next to him and I look over at him and he looked PISSED! He never even glanced over at me and I only saw him for a split second because right when we were next to each other I had enough time to see his pms face and he already had it in a lower gear and floored it. I just said fuck it. LOL of the day for me was his face.

If it was an auto V6 stang you prolly would have been able to take him. Those things are heavy and the V6 only makes around 200 somewhere.

The way to tell if it is a GT or not is count tail pipes. V6 = 1 pipe V8 = 2 pipes.

Oh idk if the trunk emblem said GT or not but it definately had 2 pipes. And it had a really deep tone, and was definately a stick too.

Nah it was a V8 Stang, and I just checked the advertised crank HP for the new V8 stangs and they weight in a 300hp\320tq at the crank.

When I came back they had a GT 5-speed and I took it for a spin. I was very unimpressed. It did not feel much faster the V-6. Even with the traction control off, it did a weak burnout. Grant it it only had a few miles on it, it should have been stronger than that!

Sigh, I end driving a lot of the weakest examples of domestics....lol

However, I do remember driving the last year brand new 5.0. This baby had some serious power. The dealer went into convulsions when I did U-turn and got it sideways! lol

The reason why it prolly didnt feel very fast was the fact that those shits are heavy as fuck.

That and I notice "green" domestic engines suck. They really need to be broken in to get power out of them compared to foreign motors. Plus domestic quality control bites the big one! I had a buddy who worked with the dyno cells with the Northstar engines. He said that the 300 crank rated hp motors varied anywhere from 270hp to 330hp. If you were drag racing caddys, a 330hp engine car would pwn a 270hp engine car!

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I did drive a 1999 Camaro Z28 automatic at a dealership near the GM Proving Grounds (I think it was tweaked!). This thing was faster than any SS or Firehawk I had driven. Heck it was quicker than all the Vettes I have driven too!

When me and my mom went to NJ on vacation we rented a V8 Mustang that only had 30 something miles, not 30k, 30. It was very sluggish and the brakes and handling sucked. I would never trade one for my 240.

I took a week long engine building class sponsored by my company. The guy teaching the class built everthing from SCCA neon motors to mega power race boat engines. He mentioned that a well-toleranced engine is pretty much broken in by 20 miles........lol Having worked at a major supplier, I can tell you that domestic engines are not well-toleranced, so they take a lot longer, at least most of them.

I work at a Ford Dealership and some v6 mustangs have duel exhaust. When Saleen converts a GT into a Saleen they send the GT bumper covers, side skirts, front grille, exhaust and wheels to the dealer ship that orders the Saleen. So what the dealership does is "upgrade" the v6 mustangs with the GT parts. So you can have a v6 that looks exactle like a GT minus the GT badges. And the v6 do sound deep for a 6 cylinder.

so you drove a pirreli saleen then highley doubt it. they dont make 5.0 any more unless you drive a pirreli saleen (all come in yellow and black btw so if it wasnt that color skeem it was not a 5.0!!!!) and its a modular motor not a windser so its still totaly diffrent anyways.

and yes, new mustangs have been dyno proven 300 hp and 320 ftbs of torque, (unlike the 2002 cobra which claimed 320 hp and in fact only got 305) what may have thrown you off is the very high gearing (2.73 or 3.05). you might think it takes that engine too long to reach redline in first gear but the time you get there your at 50mph, unlike most cars where your at 30 often at higher rpms (4.08 rear gears for 240s).

imagine mustangs with 4.08. its a world of diffrence (aka alot damn faster) on a car that already kicks alot of ass.

im sure youve driven more cars than me over the years, but im comparing to my old stang, a 2000 trans am, a s2k (2.0L more revy motor), and a bunch of other cars not as fast as any of the above mentioned. (haha, i have never driven a car under 200hp though until recent, lol)

I stand firm on my opinion that new mustangs are fast bastards and there is nothing faster under 30 grand (no options can get you down to 26 grand for a GT)

First of all I do not care what the reason it is slower, I found a car that is FASTER than your Mustang for a lower price. (faster means higher top end speed from the factory)
Second of all I recall the aerodynamics of the previous generation Mustang were so poor they had to add some tape to it to beat a Maxima top end! I seriously doubt the new mustang will do 161mph without the limiter.

thats why my ford had 190,000 miles with zero problems, although the acura i had back when i was 16 and my moms honda had/have problems, both at only 100,000 miles. what ever the top priority is, it sure isnt shit quality. Tons of money was spent on design and testing; these are some rather complex gaskets with special embosses and coatings. This company also produced Honda head gaskets. These were so simple that they were essentially a piece of sheetmetal with some holes in it with a nothing special coating. Not known to the public, but Ford had over 5000 trucks with massive oil leaks. The reason why is ridiculus!

Ok, lets do a little lesson in word definition. You claimed that the Mustang is faster than any car under $30K. Fastest usually refers to the top speed of a car. Quickest refers to how quickly it accerlerates to achieve a certain speed. It still fails as being the quickest too! The base model 350Z was faster and quicker in the quarter mile!

No arguement there, if the Shelby can only do 150mph from the factory, then the fact is that the Neon/Caliber is indeed faster than the Shelby. While I admit that the Shelby has enough power to push past the 150mph, perhaps the car becomes so unstable at those speeds they decided to cap the car at a much lower speed?

Just because a car is capable of doing xxx amount of speed does not mean it should if it is so unstable at that speed it is easy to wreck.

Ok, lets do a little lesson in word definition. You claimed that the Mustang is faster than any car under $30K. Fastest usually refers to the top speed of a car. Quickest refers to how quickly it accerlerates to achieve a certain speed. It still fails as being the quickest too! The base model 350Z was faster and quicker in the quarter mile!

No arguement there, if the Shelby can only do 150mph from the factory, then the fact is that the Neon/Caliber is indeed faster than the Shelby. While I admit that the Shelby has enough power to push past the 150mph, perhaps the car becomes so unstable at those speeds they decided to cap the car at a much lower speed?

Just because a car is capable of doing xxx amount of speed does not mean it should if it is so unstable at that speed it is easy to wreck.

the cars are stable at those speeds, its limited for insurance reasons but alot of people de-activate the limiter. my stang i used to have could reach 150 im pretty sure (again, computer limited) cause i reached 120 without relizing it a couple times and it was still a silky smooth ride. ive gone to dealerships and i never saw a 350z under 30 grand. according to the nissan website the cheapest is 29,000, so , technically i was wrong, i apologize. mustang is the fastest thing under 29,000. but oh yeah, i just found out somthing very interesting, the 29,000 dollar version does not come with an lsd and the 30,000 dollar one does! im betting the time your counting betting it on the quarter mile has an lSD (holy i suck off the line batman) so the stang still is the fastest under 30 grand.

built ford tough for the win (use the trucks at work too and they are so much better than the chevy or the dodge, one guy is hardcore GM muscle car guy and he loves the ford trucks the company has)
