Megan Racing Manifold
GT2871R .86
Upgraded internal wastegate

vs.

Hybridynamics Top Mount
Tial 44mm WG
T3/T04E 50 Trim .63 A/R Stage 3 Wheel

I can't decide. (I would go 57 Trim but this car will be mostly pump street car.)

you need to decide the purpose of the build. what will you be using the car most of the time and what is most important for your fun factor. you can put any turbo you want to,decision on power band, range, top end , etc or a plain dyno queen...lol..

you mentioned a gt2871 .64 and a t3/t4 50 trim.... those two have 2 different responses and characteristics..that shows me you havent decided on your build and it shows me you are looking around 400 whp. these turbos will get there, one easier than the other but how they get there are two different paths. you also mentioned 93 octane so thats a deciding factor.

what motor by the way and supporting mods.

how about..
either cheap turbo and cheap mani
or expensive turbo and expensive mani.

or..
decent turbo and decent mani.

you dont necessarily HAVE to have a 800+ dollar manifold if all you want to do is cruise around town.

^like V-empire said, depends on the purpose of the build.

I said .86 not a .64 :taunt:

Yeah, I know the differences. I have been debating this for about 6 months now. I think the end result will be about the same for both, around 400whp and low 4k spool ranges.

GT2871R .86 Pros:
It's been tested, tried and true. Most people get high 300whp range which seems to be a good daily driven / weekend track car. There are 2 things that scare me about this setup. One being that every bit of the exhaust gases in order to make those 400hp has to pass through a t2 flange on the manifold. That's a bottleneck, I don't care what people say. The exhaust gases that struggles to get through the flange bottle neck in the manifold and eventually back into the combustion chamber. This causes more heat, more detonation, and worst is an unclean burn next cycle. Secondly, this turbo seems laggy. People that have it eventually want to go topmount. I probably wouldn't be totally happy with the way it performed, but I could be like GateCrasher on FA.com and run a small shot of nitrous to fix that and the spool problem.

The 50trim seems like a good rookie turbo, and I would have the option to go bigger once I build the bottom end (if I ever decide to do so) to go with a bigger turbo then and keep the manifold.

Blah, decisions decisions...

The HD manifold is the cheapest top mount (without going ebay) that I have found. Full-Race and Peak-Boost are more expensive.

people say only means so much. you still seems unsure and they both are different. best thing to do is to ride in cars with both setups. if you have already, you should have decided by then. i guarantee it.

why are you going .86 anyways? its not always a higher freeing flow of exhaust gases that makes the turbo better. it reacts differently. i have a .86 and i like the .64 housing sometimes better.

we went from a gt35 to a gt30 to a t3/t4 and now to a gt2871 .64.......because it suits better for what we do. there is a difference.

if you are already leaving room for bigger turbo, then go with the t3/t4. i am only assuming you are street driving this thing daily, ka maybe sr, still dont know, but good luck.

Sorry it's an sr.

To answer the question (finally, I know) what the car will be used for. This car is not my daily. Weekend / 2nd car at best, but I have always been into drag racing. I want a turbo.. or setup that puts me into the 11s without question. Both of these should be close. I could care less really about lag. The only thing that might make a difference is when I go to an 1/8th of a mile track.

I like top-end power cars, I doubt the gt2871r .64 would be for me. I want something that will make my friend's Mustangs and LS1s a bitch on the highway.

much better .....awesome. :goodjob: good luck. makes more sense now.

i would go more aggressive on the build for a great drag car.. we are doing one for a custy also. by the way, our stock sr with 2871 .64 does high 11's.

let us know what you picked.

You must work at a shop.

I think the 50trim is winning so far.

Thanks for your help.
