View Full Version : Brake Lock Up on Idle?

Ok, so we just finished the Vert 5 speed swap, and everything is A-OK, except for one issue. When the car sits for a period of time (at a stop light, or pulling into a parking space) the brakes are stuck as if you are pushing the pedal in. In order to "unlock" the brakes, you have to stomp the brake pedal to hell and pull the ebrake pedal to hell to "unjam" it.

What would cause it to do this?

It could be a lot of things. Is it all 4 brakes or just in the rear?

I would try to find out what brakes are getting stuck. That way you can narrow down the problem. It could just be the E-brake cable pinched on something or the little latch for it on the caliper being rusted. It could also be the caliper it self going bad.

something similar happened to me;
it turned out that one of my rear calipers were sticking. I found that out becuase I was checking my tire pressure one day after a "spirited run" and my RR was giving off a considerable amount heat and my LR wasn't. I replaced my caliper and problem fixed.

You might also trying bleeding your brakes if its been a while.

I had a similar problem but all my wheels would lock up while driving I had to pull the vacuum line off the booster to free them up after a few times doing this I haven't had a problem out of my brakes since!

I was going to say this also just to eliminate this possibility. Also maybe your master cylinder is not working and therefore is not putting the pressure back into the pedal?

Either, you somehow messed with the brake booster and have the valve the wrong way.

Or, you pinched the e brake cable, which seems to be most likely because you were down under the car with the tranny off.

Well it could aslo be that your car is losing power and cuttin on and off... since you usually at a stand still it could be something with you idle... since as we all know.. if you lose power while moving.. those brakes.. aint helpin you lol....

Doubt thats it, but just figured I would give my 2 cents based on what im going through...
