damn man this thread is misleading
i figured you were giving 'shit rocks' away for free.
dang man, I'm jealous. I really want to get into photography but can't justify spending the money it would take to get nice equipment. Especially not on top of the money consuming hobbies I already have. Speaking of which, I'm really hurting for some new soccer cleats.. Anyone know of any soccer stores going out of business?

Heck yea! As much as I hate IA, I'm gonna go check out what that IA sponsored soccer team is all about. They practice on tuesdays and thursdays at collins hill, so I'll be close to pleasant hill thursday night. Maybe I can pick up another pair of predators for cheap.

Well I've got a olympus FE-190 digital and a sony mavica digital, but niether of them have the features I'm looking for. I know you don't have to have a ton of money to get into it, but I meant that I have trouble even throwing $500 into something I'm just a beginner at when I have so many other things I like to do. I'm sure I'll get more into it once I graduate and start working.

Or you could get a good camera and get a Nikon ;)
Uh oh, so Nikon is the market leader in quality and performance right now?

if by market leader you mean breaking 3 times in one year, then yes :) (at least that's what happened when i had a D70). although, in nikon's defense, i only know of 1 other person that's had trouble with their stuff, and most of my other friends that shoot with them (actually thats also only like 1 person) are happy.
i switched to canon a year or so and got a 30D + some nice glass and i couldn't be happier. as a whole, i like the on-camera interface much better with canon, the nighttime/high ISO performance from canon blows nikon away, among other things. most any modern D-SLR will be decent enough to begin with though, just make you save money for good glass as it makes a massive difference over most of the crappy kit lens' that come with everything.

Jesus. For the love of god people. RandomGuy is sarcastic in 99% of his posts and or actions. His startion is not blue, I believe its still friggin red. He is not going to put an accord front end on. Nor is he putting a B18whatever in there.

well i got to play with a nikon D2XS one weekend with every lens nikon makes. it was fun as hell and took fucking brilliant photos, but with a cpu controlled camera you could too. 15k in photography equipment FTW. maybe i'll see if i can bring it out to a shoot one day

what's wrong with a zoom lens?
i have a 17-85IS and a 70-200L and i'm not sure why one would want to steer clear of them.

well for me i just dont like the fstop rating...
the next lens i buy will be a canon 100mm macro F2.0 lens
and those two lens's are great for zoom lens's i just enjoy having a really low Fstop
ive got the starter lens ick 18-55mm 3.5 - 5.6
and a 50mm f1.8 lens
i love the 50 and hate the zoom lens
but i dont mean to knock all zoom lens's i like some... like that 70-200 you have there... but most zoom lens's like the 70 - 300 lens thats about 200 bucks is a terrible lens. i guess me personally id rather spend the time to swap from a 50mm to a 100mm lens and still have a really low (2.0) fstop
if i was going to a drift event i would want a 70 - 200 lens
but if i was doing a setup or creativity shooting
i really need to start shooting in RAW mode lmao
jpgs are making my picture colors SUCK lol

yea, the key is to just not buy cheap lenses if you want good aperature values.
prime's can be cool too though, i also have a canon 50 and it's a lot of fun, especially for the price.

Haha yeah. I wasn't really being serious bashing Cannon. I love both. I have a Cannon point and shoot (with lots of options and it fits in my pocket) and love it. They both make really great cameras.
It really does boil down to what glass you have on the camera and who's using the camera...
I know lots of people with both Cannon and Nikon DSLR's and all of them love them. I've had no problems with mine but would like some better glass...
