Okay so i was in a *heated lol* debate about which setup on a V is more efficiant. single turbo or dual turbo. i was on the dual side and he was on the single side... neways i said that the pipes were the only reason that a single wouldnt be as "good" on a V engine cuz a strange manifold would have to be made and it wouldnt be equal length thus there is a possibility of more compression and heat loss in the longer pipes. la la la ignore the debate i really dont care bout that. this thread is about an idea i had.
i wanted equal length headers for a V engine. so i asked myself why couldnt engine designers make the exhaust manifold come out where the intake manifold is...
picture below*
things to do

Swap intake and exhaust cam on dohc motor
leaving stock timing possions.
fabricate an exhaust and intake manifolds

heres a pic

does anyone have any input to share w/ me on this?
it could work theoretically
you would have to have the ports reported as i believe they are differently shaped for maximium flow...

any input is appreciated... id love to try this one day =D

twin turbo ftw.....its application based not generic

what about all the heat?? that is insane you'd want to mount a turbo in the middle of an engine. something like this would work better but look at all the heat wrap plus i think they had to modify the hood to fit it properly. the optimal thing would be for twins.

I saw in a super street mag there was some japanese tuner that converted the twins on a GTO (3000gt Vr-4) to a greddy t88h.was looking but i cant seem to find a picture. but it was mounted off to the side. I think it was a drag car that ran 10's or sub 10s.

The APS single kits for the VQ35's isn't exactly that beneficial. From what i understand you have to drop the tranny to work on the turbo at all because the headers Y and the turbo sits right there. Lots of piping and a bitch to work on. Duals FTW two is always better :)

I dont think this would be too difficult. It looks like a clean setup.

=D hood scoop right infront of the turbine for the heat
and a vent behind the turbo out of the hood
just dont plan on doing stupid burnouts haha

i wanna do it tho it'd look so funkey to have the exhaust manifold right there on top =D

Ohhh! Now we are in my territory! No Japanese made GTO has ever run a 9.xx run. Dynamic Racing and then 3SX in USA were the first, second, and only 9 second holders.

And Twin Turbo is run on both. BUT there is a company running a Single GT42xx something or other that just released a kit. They haven't been to the track yet, but you can expect very low numbers. I believe they had nearly 900AWHP.

Let me bust out my picture folder here.. And I'll post up engine bay pics.

Ok, just looked around a little. And the 3SX car is running Twin GT35's, and 902HP. And this setup pulled ~863 I think.

Here ya go. This is a single turbo on a Transversely mounted V6.

no i know it can be done
single turbo on a V motor
but im talkin about less pipe
by switching the intake and exhaust ports by swapping the cams
and putting the turbo on the top of the motor

He is talking about swapping the heads basically. The exhaust side is now in the middle and the intake sides are on the outside, so basically backwards.

yeah
can you swap heads?
arent the oil and coolant ducts different?

i wanna do it one day =D it'd be so cool
