Depends on your cash situation. If you can go SR, why not?

WHAT!!!!! SR20!!!!! go with an RB20DET you can run up to 400HP on stock internals all you need is koyo Radiator , tophat motor mounts, thats it and maybe a new clutch but a 300zx N/A on will fit

if you wanna be different go with the rb20.. they're a bit cheaper than a sr, but they're supported less than the sr..

And you can run 400hp on stock internals on just about anything. Its all about reliability. There is some guy running around with ~500hp on stock KA internals. I bet they blew already though.

yeah i dont have the money to go sr
and ive got a ka sitting around with 98 k miles on it
so im probably gonna just ka-t and build my motor
rods (for now eagle seems like what im goin with)
pistons (unsure ideas?)
cams (crower *stage 3*)
valve springs (crower)
lightweight 1mm overbore valves
all new gaskets
gt40xxr turbo
vmount setup
ive tossed around different ideas over the past while
first was going to do an rb25 swap
then figured id save for a 26
then decided on 2jz-ge w/ single turbo setup and motor build for low compression large turbo ect ect
then ended up saying i was gonna roll ka-t when i got the cash *small turbo* and light motor build for temporarty with a 5 speed swap
and after that i was gonna do an s15 sr20 swap
six speed ftw
now im going to just build my 98k mile motor.
its just about what you want eventually
do you want an sr20?
or do you want a ka-t setup
if you can go sr20 id recoomend it
theres a reason its a popular motor as stated in other threads around.
IN SUM
do it do it do it

S15 missions are weak. had a buddy go through 3 of them, and he finally switched back to a 5 spd.

they arent weak for an oem spec tranny for a 4cyl. its actually pretty darn strong. its designed for 250 whp and you sholdnt have a problem under 400whp. considering that, its pretty darn strong. its expensive as hell when they go bust coz replacements are rare and costly. on top of that, its not a drag race type tranny, and there are means to preserve the logevity of trannies by the way a driver drives it. we ve used a 6 speed for a whole season before and the twin plate clutch went before the 6 speed tranny.

But it is well known they are weaker then their 5 speed counterparts.
