Well, i've always loved watching drifting, and I have always wanted to try it. I was wondering what is the best way to get into it, like where is a place to try it out or practice. I heard about some tracks having drift days or something, but would a newbie to drifting have any room to learn out there?

Well, thanks in advance for any advice yall could give me.

Why don't you join us out at Turner field this month and/or next? These events are a great place to start since we have wide open spaces with cones as barriers so you don't really have to worry about hurting your car... Theres tons of people that will help you get started and give you tips too.

no its fairly cheap.

get a rwd car, get an extra set of tires. register for southeastdrift.com competition at turner field coming up in two weeks. cheap only 89.99

go out there and drift. ask some help and you go from there. you will have fun, i promise you that.

the best way is to take your stock 240, find a populated walmart parking lot and go at it, most people know what it is, so if you have trouble, most helpful citizens would be glad to tell you what you are doing wrong. Good luck man.

Ok, thank you. That event looks like it would be fun, I might go check it out.

Is having an automatic, or manual transmission recommended for starting out with?
Oh, and on the event page, it said you have to have your car inspected, what exactly are they inspecting for?

Oh, and i'll have to try that sometime JJ :screwy:

I would suggest a 5 speed but you wont die if you dont have one, but tech is for safety and making sure you are gonna be safe and not hurt yourself or others on the track etc.

You want a manual...

we inspect...

-seats bolted down and has all 4 bolts
-no crazy leaks
-battery tie down
-wheel bearings are good
-all lug nuts are there
-have right amount of clutch and brake fluid and caps on reservoirs
-no crazy cracks in your windshield where it looks like its gonna fall in
-Seat belts are there and bolted in proper manner.
-Gas cap is in place
-cover positive battery terminal

there should be a list on the event thread. Its all pretty common sense things you would want anyway and nothing too expensive to fix if you don't have it.

If you want to save money on tires just get spares. Wont last long but it's good for beginners and you don't need a lot of speed.

Just go to Big10Tires or something...I see them all over the place when I go in there. Ask for bad used tires if you don't want to get spares. Then just buy some rims and ask them to put them on. It cost me $5 for each tire.

GTE indeed.

and like everyone said, go to as many practice days as you can. ride along with some of the more experienced drivers and ask them to ride along with you for pointers, and just stick with it and you'll eventually start getting it together.

Ok, thanks again for all of the advice guys. Oh yea, and for the events is it required to wear a helment, and what kind is required if it is needed?

And what is GTE exactly?

www.granturismoeast.com

Gran Turismo East, THE best place around for new or used tires/alignments/suspension setup/etc. Ask for Kieran, he'll take care of you.
