ok a buddy of mine was looking to by a car, but he wanted one w/o a sunroof. i ask why and he says b/c they weigh more, like the way a vert weighs more b/c the beefier reinforcement.

i'm not sure if i buy this, but never really thought about it. i told my bud it shouldn't add much weight, if any, 'cause the car still has all it's main structural elements.

plus, the sunroof and motor and all the stuff associated with it doesn't weigh all that much does it? (but does it weigh more than the sheet metal it replaces?) i mean hell, that's like saying you have to reinforce the car cause there's a big ass hole in the front (aka windshield), right?

someone please school me.
thanks

the sunroof asym. does add a good amount of weight to the car, but if u got power it doesnt matter :)

i have a moon roof thingy...

um yeah it does. Power to weight ratio. Say for instance u get, Jet Li: he has no weight. THen you take a big huge dood, hes got some power right; but heavy as hell. Jet Li has the same power.
WHo moves faster? Jet Li....

sunroofs are disliked mostly because of head clearence with helmet. stiffness and weight is a debate. for a race car, who needs a sunroof when the car decides to flip anyways? for a street car, you should worry more about other things, like the way you drive and stop trying to get me to race on the streets, and blinding me with the unleveled fog lights and cutting me off without signals, and revving your engines at stop lights.

bmw sunroof asembly was 50 pounds
replaceable with a CF like... 12 ounce cap

yeah on the 3 series people seriously noticed a handling difference
its 50 pounds off the top of ure car
now, the 240 sunroof is like 20 ish pounds so not AS big of a diff but still decent

lol. Just pull the moonroof glass OUT before you go driving.

I have a friend who does it all the time. Personally, I don't really care.

lol.
i was more wandering about the reinforcement side of having a sun/moonroof... i've only ever pulled one out of any car (an integra) and it didn't weigh all that much, maybe 20-30 pounds or so.
o well

Biggest thing about the sunroof.... there is 50lbs (in an e30) of dead weight AT THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE CAR

so what if you have the power to push the 50lbs... weight high above the center of gravity is ghey....
