View Full Version : SOHC vs DOHC Clutch?

The mechanical side of me says there should be no difference but at this stage in the game I can't afford to buy the wrong parts. Are there any differences between a KA24DE and KA24E labeled clutch? I'm finally swapping in a lower mileage KA24E for my dead block and I figured I might as well swap out the tob + clutch.

Great, that's what I was thinking. Does the tranmission and block have a pre-cut gasket or does it use a liquid sealant? Was glancing over the FSM and I think it specifies the latter?
ok 95% certain it's a sealant between the bellhousing and the engine.

really anything that isnt sohc is better...
dohc clutch ftw

dohc clutch ftw
Shut the fuck up, seriously.
You're an idiot.
And the clutches will have some different part numbers, but they fit on either. Whether or not they have more clamp force or anything, I have no clue, but I highly doubt it. I used a DOHC clutch kit on my SOHC a while back, and have used a SOHC clutch kit on a DOHC before, they all work.

for clamping force, they should all be the same since most pressure plates and such at a minimum are enough for this car, in other words they wont make one for 1400 pounds and a different one for 1600 pounds...
but in the rare case they do, the sohc actually makes more torque so the sohc press plate may as well have more clamping force. doubt it though.

Uhhh, SOHC motor doesnt make more torque, but yeah either one will work.

There is no sealant, gasket, or silicone... nothing... there is a dust sheild but there is not a gasket.

Between the block and the bell housing? So just tighten bolts to factory spec  Unless I'm missing it, the FSM doesn't have a section on mating the two together, hence why I ask such stupid questions.
