The new GTR, not even the V-Spec driven by a different person just scored an even faster time on the ring. 7:29 which is closing in on the V-Spec's time.
I think the V-Spec ran a 7:25 or something like that the first time. I think they are going to have to run it again after this.

To quote Cartman... "Kickass!"
When they tune that ECU...the world will come to an end because that will be the last great achievement of mankind.

I wonder if its capable of sustaining 1000 whp like the rb26dett....

It damn well better be capable of that...
I just love the symmetry of the engine bay... but I hate new engines with their coverings. I just want to see the engine.

The block should hold it but that's it, even the RB won't hold more than about 650whp for long on the stock internals. Nissan intentionally ran their first times on a "compromised" track to show how quick it was even in imperfect conditions. The computer is already pretty much fully cracked both in Japan and here in the states. The car will be a beast very shortly regardless of what Nissan said about its lack of tuning potential.

I was reading that the gearbox can only take about 600hp.
Sounds like the twin clutch system is holding it back from getting more power.

Hmm, I wonder if there are any other tranny options for swaps out there... Guess you could make it strictly rear drive and use a z33 tranny? idk...

So does the GTR, albeit with the AWD driveshaft going back to the front end.

Plenty of people throw out numbers for power capabilities on trannies and plenty of people go well beyond that with no problems. I personally doubt Nissan put a tranny in the GTR that was only slightly overbuilt. Even the stock RB26 tranny doesn't like much more than 600whp when trying to shift it hard. They had a mismatch though between the two gears for third that caused it to shear off teeth at higher HP. I'm sure OS Giken will make a setup like what we had to use in our R33, and HKS, and Veilside, and all the others will make upgraded boxes for them.

on Tskuba circuit in Japan the new GTR ran a 1:01 stock and the 34 ran a 1:06when it was new, so that's a big improvement. When they brought the D1 cars to Tskuba, they weren't even running that fast. They had times around 1:02 - 1:04

yeah but they were probably drifting around the curves.... might add just a few seconds to their time.

1:01 on Tsukuba is fast for any car. One minute flat is pretty much the benchmark that most garage tuners shoot for.
Heres a list of production car times:
