So I was on my way home from work this evening and noticed an Elise at a stop light about to turn left onto the road I was on. I thought to myself, "Ah cool! Never messed around with one of those. Maybe he'll play ..."

So I got in the right hand lane and slowed down a bit to let him catch up. After a few lights of not seeing him, I thought he might have turned or wasn't interested in street fun. About a mile later I hear VROOOOOM! as he flew past me on the left. I dropped into 4th and jumped on his tail. Eventually we got to a red light with nothing but open road ahead. I couldn't pull up next to him b/c another car was there, so I settled for being right behind him.

Right before the light turned green I hear him rev to around 2500-3000. I thought, "Holy shit this guy is really gonna launch?!?" Anyways, light turns green and he takes off. Unfortunately, I still have an open diff and completely worn tires ... so when I floored it, I spun through 1st, 2nd, and most of 3rd. Regardless, I was still skating right on his ass. I got into the right lane, threw it into 4th gear and blasted right by him putting an instant train car on him.

We both got to a stop light and he rolled down his window and in a British accent asked, "What the hell do you got in that thing? That's really cool!" I told him it was the motor from a Toyota Supra and he kinda looked at me blankly. I laughed and said "You're car is awesome man. You'd totally destroy me in the mountains." He smiled, gave me a wave then drove away.

Any chance I get to play with someone on the streets makes me happy. Thank you sir for brightening my somewhat depressing day :)

That would be my guess to, but I am curious because those lotus have one hell of a power to weight ratio going on.

they are defiantly fun cars to play with. wait till u play with one in the mountains. heck get to take one in the back roads. shit is on rails.

it didnt make 450whp but its power to weight ratio puts it right at 450whp.
and its shit ton fast. deffantly a midship setup with power thru the power band is amazing.

llook up turbo exigue. at 350whp they run high 11.

Yeah, that's pretty much my dream car right there. Maybe not the fastest on the straights, but put it in the twisties, and

I love those damn cars, there's a few of them floating around Alpharetta/Roswell that I've ran across.

Good kill... can't say I'm surprised though, assuming it was the 190hp Toyota Celica engine vs. the 2jz... a modified 2jz that is. Even the ~900?lb advantage isn't going to help the Lotus there. Fun kill story. :goodjob:

The Elises aren't fast by any means in a straight line. We've added superchargers to quite a few of them and it solves this little problem. lol Most of the Elises also only had an open diff so they spin a good bit with the superchargers in first. Our supercharged 04 can just about keep up with my bike from a light and pulls me slightly from an 80 roll. We just got done putting a BWR supercharger on a blue 05 Elise from Cobb county so if you see a short woman behind the wheel its probably that car, though I doubt she will run anyone, she's an attorney. lol

Open diff on a car built to run like it's on rails???! :screwy::toung2::thinking:

That makes NO GODDAMNED SENSE...

Wow. That's the first thing I'd fix... and yeah, I'm pretty sure I've seen that lady, I remember thinking, "OMG, it's a lady..." and she was olderish... as I recall sort of blondey-gray?

The lady I'm talking about is maybe in her early 30's. She's a few months preggers too. Foreverbroke, when you drive one you won't notice or miss the LSD. Its simply not as necessary when 60% of the weight is on the tires and more shifts to it as you hit the gas. The car rotates and neutral slides just fine without it, both directions. Lotus didn't leave it out to be cheap, it simply isn't necessary. With the addition of a supercharger the slower speed corners on an autox causes a lot of wheel spin which is why I'm putting a helical in ours later this month.

Memme

Huh... well that's good anyway.

When I think of open diff, it's "highly likely to lose your shit around a corner and end up either in the ditch or facing the wrong way in traffic", especially in rain... Which happened a few times in the slick ass parking lot of the apartment I used to live in... I did it on purpose mostly, just for fun because that parking lot was stupid slick in the rain... like someone waxed it for bowling, and then poured liquid detergent and oil on it for good measure... :goodjob:

Preggers huh... Is she hot? Hahah... I are sick bastard... :p

Now, being that this are a MR layout, do you see the problems with snap oversteer like in an MR2, or has Lotus designed a superior car in that aspect as well?

Cool Cat Racing
05-03-2008, 02:54 PM
If you don't know what to do it will swap ends with you pretty easy. One of our guys was running it at RA and looped it going into turn 1 and it just went backwards up the hill. The car tends to understeer until you learn to drive it properly so usually you'll just hit front first if you crash. Once you learn the proper way to drive it you can do things that quick physics in your head says shouldn't be possible. I've never ran an MR2 hard on the track but a buddy of mine spins his all the time in TT, I think much of that is driver error though. lol As for her being preggers, you can't get pregnant again till that one pops out. lol
