Ok, it's about D-day on my car and i am going ot need an exhaust. I am looking for opinons on what exhausts are decent. I have been looking into the apexi N1 or Noir but just seeing what everyone else thinks. My setup atm is a stock KA but may become boosted here in the future. thanks for your time.

Mine is stock pipeing w no resonators and a welded on ebay muffler! oh yeah!!! :lmfao:
I'd like to know whats good and such as well... Maybe we can find some sound clips or videos to link to see what they sound like... I'm Still runnin complete stock exhaust but don't plan on getting anything until the SR goes in.

well from my understanding the exhausts are universal between the two engines. I am replacing the one that was on there at one point bc it was beat to hell and the cat was no good.

From what I hear 3in pipe is a bit too big for the NA KA so if you get an exhaust now get a 2.5in piped exhaust. Then again thats hearsay so take it for what its worth.

well 3" would make for less sback pressure on a NA setup. though with a turbo app 3" would be suitable.

I would go up to mainstream and have them fab one up for you. It is like 400 bucks and the muffler of your choice. They do great work as far as fabracation and welding and stuff like that goes. That is what I would do. Why spend the extra money on something that has apexi or hks on it when you can have an exhaust just as good if not better for cheaper. If you plan on turbo later go ahead and get 3in. IIRC it is hard to back the steering rack with a 3in tho. But dont take my word on that. LOL

I have an HKS hi-power and its a good na setup. Very streetable and quiet unless under moderate acceleration. Bought it off a guy going to a 3" for his new turbo. I really like the buddy club II that Cody runs, bit loud for an na but rides nice and high against the body for clearance.

i wouldnt do anything to crazy with exhaust untill ur boosted. for the time being i would say just get a cat back exhaust or at least an axle back muffler.

i have a buddy club specII and love it, but as byron mentioned, it would probably be way too loud on a NA motor.
it's quite loud on my SR but has a nice unique tone, and i also love the look of having just a pipe instead of a big muffler.

Cody do you live in a county with emissions though? I guess I am picky b/c I live in Gwinnett and have emissions so that is one thing i have to cinsider. Right now like I said the car is stock (NA) but will poss be boosted later.

cat is the issue, not the mufflers...for emission that is.
CodyW
04-23-2007, 06:44 PM
yea, i'm in dekalb. the actual ehxuast won't really have much to do with emissions though, unless you remove the cat while you're at it (which most aftermarket exhausts don't do, you have to get a seperate test pipe for that).

Yeah. I have seen some exhausts come with a straight pipe to the muffler is why I asked ( basically the test pipe built in). thanks.

how restrictive are the exhaust manifolds? to get noticeable results would a header be necessary?

yes, everyone has opinions, so here's one guy's to skim through...

very..... the headers you mean?
zcrew
04-23-2007, 07:39 PM
is there a big difference between the stock exhaust manifold and a decent priced header as far as flow goes? I've heard of people with other cars keeping the same exhaust piping size but throwing on a nice header and gaining power from that.
v-empire
04-23-2007, 08:14 PM
yes....headers do make a difference. stock are restrictive. either way you go you are just freeing up more flow from the exhaust side.

it actually depends on the size of the turbo.
AlmostFast

would aftermarket header, as we only have one! would probably help some as stock is restrictive but if you are planning on a turbo setup in the future the header would be a waste of money as you would be getting a manifold and dp to replace that header.

what depends on the size of the turbo
man hit up dyno with your 2j with exhaust ...then dyno without exhaust =D

bingo. the more open the exhaust, the less torque.
also, in some cases, back pressure is needed to keep the turbo spinning properly ... ever heard or boost surge? the turbo spins too fast for it's spec and ends up back spinning. used to happen w/ my GTI all the time (I was trying to blow the turbo up)

well I knwo I wont get much as far as performance gains but I need an exhaust period and would prefer to go ahead and get one aftermarket vs getting a stock one then changing it out later.
