View Full Version : One question about MAF selection

Hey guys, I'm asking this before I forget about it, it just popped in my head. I'm looking at this SR20 wiring setup (car I might get has CA18 but I hear wiring is the exact same). It mentions the part about extending the MAF singal wires on the SR harness, and mentions for a SOHC MAF to do one setup, or for the DOHC Z32 MAF another way and mentions the Z32 MAF requires tuning the ECU to make it run right. Do the Maxima/J30 and possibly the Q45 (doubt I'll need one THAT big) fall under the same requirement or will they run fine on a stock ECU setting? I guess it's no big deal since this won't be my daily driver, and having to get an S-AFC II is pretty much a given to fine tune the car with, just thought I'd ask because the Maxima/J30 MAF will put me at the max power goal I'd probably want anyways.

Flame on if you will, but I've researched the CA18s and 240SXs as much as I possibly could the past few days and never really seen anything mentioned about having to tune for different MAFS, maybe I'm just reading the wrong webpages. Any help would be appreciated.

you answered your own question so not sure what you are asking.
you have to decide which maf you are running.
of course there are other piggy back systems for your ecu, or tuned ecu or standalones
SAFC is inexpensive and gives user control, and is needed to run anything other than the sr20det maf or sohc.
there is a setting to change the configuration so your car recognizes the MAF from your maxima or z32 or q45. thats it. tuning it is a different issue.

good luck.

Well I was asking if I ran any MAF besides a stocker or SOHC one, if I had to have the tuning to make it run right. I was going to get a MAFS to put on it for now to get it to run right until I started tuning, and was just curious if the Maxima one needed tuning like the Z32 one did.

you can put it on, but the car wont run right.
ecu is set for a certain a/f and also wont read some MAF signals without SAFC settings changed.

Dang, well I guess I'l have to clean out the stock one and use it until I get around to getting a piggyback or something similiar. Thanks for the help.

dont worry about the maf until you get other stuff get goes along with the upgrade...eq injectors, turbo, ecu rom, standalone, or piggy back system.
dont post of FA advance unless its beyond the basic or they will chew you up and ban you. good luck with the project and hope to see your car done.
