No idea what it is but I bet you could get it off with an adjustable wrench :)
Looks like the fill plug for your tranny. Just use a box wrench to get it off. Or I believe a 1/2 inch wrench.

there should be a drain plug on the very bottom of the trans. and a fill plug close to it in the side just a few inches up. fill the trans until it starts dripping out of the fill plug and your good to go.

awesome
thanks alot guys...i was confused
FYI - I thought it was easier remove the shifter from the top side versus getting to the side tranny fill plug underneath. The issue is not removing the tranny plug, but with adding the new tranny fluid. No room or angle to pour tranny fluid. Do not forget to replace with Synthetic tranny oil!!! I will have to check the oil weight. It has been a while since I replaced.

I thought your only supposed to use GL-4 fluid in your tranny..?

I thought your only supposed to use GL-4 fluid in your tranny..? yep and redline mt90 is the only gl-4 syntec that you can find normally.
I tried taking that plug off with a wrench but I just couldn't get it so I used my teeth.
haha, jk. I agree with Naka though, it's much easier to take your shifter out and fill from the top and just wait for it to start coming out the fill plug.

The gears are hard as hell to get into, and I have a short shifter
I think it is my tranny, i dont think the clutch can cause those problems.

It's the damn synchro's, the teeth between the gears in your tranny.

slave cylinder taking a shit!
Is every gear hard to get into or just some of them?
NcTurnL

First is a ***** to get into ALL THE TIME, ESPECIALLY when im rolling, second not so much and so on their fine. Reverse take 2-3 tries to get it into gear.
I never thought of it being the slave, could that actually make it hard to get into each gear?

i m telling you what to check. it will get worse and worse if you dont change it out.
I may be wrong but I think faulty synchros affect shifting into individual gears and a faulty slave cylinder would affect shifting into all gears.

Yep either slave, master or you need to bleed the clutch..
Tyler
I had the same prob when all i need to do was bleed my lines. I replaced the slave cyl ($15) which didn't really help then ended up bleeding a TON. That helped a tad but what really helped was removing the speed bleeder hose (there is a how to in the diy section). After that was gone, bleeding was easy and the petal and shifting felt SO much better...

^problem isnt soft pedal, its hard to get in gear. how did it go? fixed it?
NcTurnL
04-29-2007, 03:12 PM
Ya, the problem isnt a soft pedal, my pedal is fine and I also already took out the little clutch dampener thing.
See im debating on whether to change the slave or not. I have a new KA with a tranny with 68k on it and its probably going in at the middle or end of may...
I just read somewhere though, that the early Nissan transmissions (example: 240sx) did not have syncros (sp?) in the First or Reverse gears, is that true, cuz thats really odd, cuse thats the only two gears that have major problems.
BTW: my engine currently has 200300K
thanks guys

just change it regardless so you have a new one with no problems. if it solves it then you are good and it will stop hurting your tranny and clutch anyways. if you decide to get a new or its a shot tranny, its only two 14 or 12 mm bolts, and swap it out? no debate, just practical. it only cost like 24 bucks or some crap. no brainer. good luck, let us know.
