I have an lsd diff and it works ok until is gets hot or you put to much torque on it. Any clues to what the problem might be?

How old is it?

Probably just getting wore out.

If its a VLSD, its just worn out

you cannot replace the viscous fluid, its sealed, all you can do is buy a different diff

Im not sure how old it is. So theres no fixing the problem I will have to buy a new one? That sucks

Yeah they actually tend to slip alot when the diff heats up. thats why its fine when you just start your car up in the mornings or whatever then after awhile you experance more slipping.

Well this one only locks up when you take off then about 4k RPM it stops from then on. How much does new or used lsd's cost

Depends on what you want. Can be anywhere from $100-700.

You can get a J30 or Q45 lsd from a junkyard for pretty cheap.

Im about ready to sell this whole car and start over. I have a 2000 excursion and its starting to cost me money that I need to spend on my 240 but the excursion is my family vehicle..... I could try putting the V-10 in the 240 LOL

are the j30 or q45 diffs direct bolt up or do I have to modify things to make it fit

you can either get another junkyard VSLD that will do the same thing or you can step up and buy a clutch type diff which is far superior and rebuildable.

I think 94,95,96 J30s have the 6 bolt output shafts(same as 240).

So for a S13 all you would have to do is change the cover.

Some have 5 bolt output shafts which means you need to change either the output shafts or your axles.

save up and get a clutch type.

Thanks for the advice. Anyone know a good place (affordable) to buy a clutch type diff?

Clutch type diffs are not cheap.

So I don't think affordable is the word to use.

You can get them for around $600 usually.

Yeah affordable may not have been the right word but if its something thats gonna last then $600 isnt to bad. That and I eventually want to put some real power in the car so I want something that will be tough.

Yea clutch type is the way to go.

You might be able to pick up a used one for $500-550 if your lucky.

Well if you're planning to add 'real power' (500+whp) then clutch types will wear out quickly too.

In that case you should buy a helical LSD/Torsen differential.

this aint no ford parts

lol.

I know. But you can still get helicals for 240s.

You can PM v-empire or myself for a Kaaz 2-way. Its the one that I ended up getting and I LOVE it... Its worth the extra $ and if you're going to get a good bit of power later you'll atleast need that.
