View Full Version : Poly filled motor mounts...

Aight, they dont make solid mounts for my car.
I know I talked to will about where to find this stuff at the other day, but I cant remember for the life of me where.
Where do I find the Polyurethane to fill the motor mounts with?
I RON DON KEY
03-05-2008, 11:44 PM
What's that?
~The_Duke~
03-05-2008, 11:45 PM
Gah now I am going to have to go look up how to spell it... lol
Polyurethane filled motor mounts.
Polyurethane is a tough hard rubber type stuff that is used to stiffen up motor mounts to cause less movement.
FYI that isnt the only use for this stuff.
Use hockey pucks!
jk, there's a write up on zilvia about diy solid motor mounts. I'll try to find the link.

Sounds like a plan...
This is all in an effort to be able to get rid of the flex pipe in my downpipe cas I dont feel like switching downpipes every 10,000 miles because it broke again.
Ok, here's the link for one, but this isn't the one I remember. I think there's actually a better one. I'll keep looking.

EDIT: yea, that's the wrong thread. That guy didn't use the right stuff. What he did will work, but it won't be SOLID. Back to searching..

Well in any case I found this lil .gif :goodjob:

I give up. Just do like that first thread I posted but use a stiffer compound like Dousan suggested.
~The_Duke~
03-06-2008, 12:04 AM
Hmmm stiffere compound...
I am thinking tractor supply store and\or home depot...
They'll have it for sure. Dousan said the yellow and brown tube? Just find some old guy that looks like he's into hot rods and tell him what you're up to. Ask for the stiffest compound they have.

Shouldnt be to hard in dawsonville lol
lol, I was just about to ask where the closest Home Depot is to Cumming..
~The_Duke~
03-06-2008, 12:14 AM
Well I am right between dawsonville, cumming, and gainesville so I will prolly go up to the one in dawsonville cas it is bigger than the other 2. Also the guys that work there tend to be alot more helpful.
If all else fails, the tractor supply co. across the street might be able to help me as well.
Here ya go. Have fun!

You can also use 3M Window Weld. I've used it on Honda's, it's stiff as shit. If it vibrates more than you like, simply drill out small hole in the 3M Window Weld to allow flex, still not smooth enough, drill another hole.
You can get this at any part store, it was like $13 a tube last time I bought it.
(Sorry if this has already been said, I didn't read the thread. Laziness FTW)
~The_Duke~
03-06-2008, 02:27 AM
I dont want it to flex at all because I am going to remove the flex pipe from my exhaust system and have a solid pipe welded in.

Then Window Weld will work guaranteed if you do it right. ;)
EDIT: They were actually proved somewhere to be stiffer than the Energy Suspension polyurethane motor mount inserts.

I would hope they are stiffer than the ES MMI because they are designed to move around.

Well, I had them in my Integra and to my surprise they had no movement at all.

You must have had the really stiff ones. My motor makes alot more TQ than a teg does though. The motor looks like it is about ready to jump out of the engine bay when it is doing dyno pulls.

yea i saw "where do i get poly" and thought of homedepot. / lowes.

Haha, I know what you mean.
Kyle and dominic both have almost tq'd my car into a tree because of the massive amount of TQ steer that is created by having a higher power'd FWD car with LSD. That dif locks up you are in for a ride... lol

Home Depot> Lowes IMO.
Haha yea, high power FWD + LSD + WOT in any other direction than straight = possible nightmare

That stuff I posted is $4 a tube and dries hard as a rock. Should do the same job as the 3M window weld.

I think the only thing worse than the Spec V with this is the SRT-4...

As long as you let whatever you use cure properly, you'll be happy. Saving money ftw.
If the car is a daily driver, I recommend getting new motor mounts for the project. You have to let the stuff cure for a good amount of time and at a certain temperature for perfection. I've watched people do a shitty job and got shitty results.
Ive used the ESMMI's on my RSX, stiffened it up to hell, but it was way too much vibration and noise for a DD.
I liquid nailed my S13 mounts. But have yet to try them.

I've never experience the SRT-4, don't intend to. I heard they were cheap pieces of _______.
Just what I heard though, they may be like the next Ferrari or something idk.

Low compression PT cruiser 2.4 FTW. Acually, don't these run 15psi stock and only make 2**hp?

They will put down about 275whp @ 15 psi with everything stock cept for waste gate and boost controller.

i have heavy duty liquid nail on my motor mounts and tranny mount, drying as we speak.. im gonna give them another few days to dry then toss them in, when ig et my wiring harness and new radiator..
hopefull they're gonna be pretty stiff, they are now only halfway dry..
i have heard of using 3m window weld, and i used gasket maker on my friends, he like them, and alot better than stock

Ya I am going to try that stuff that Cash posted up and see what happens. After I go see how much new motor mounts cost lol

Yeah, Im using the PL stuff...
With that being said, I've since then bought some Nismo motor mounts. The vibrations are driving me crazy. The throttle response is noticeable though...they definitely don't move, but everything else does as a trade off.
I'll leave my tranny mount poly'ed (actually, I need to do it again because I didn't let it cure enough, so some of it leaked out) and install the Nismo's when I get a chance.
If the car is a track car or high whp car, go for it. For a DD, I'd recommend Nismos. Personal preference...

I have been told that using the more soild motor mounts will increase throttle response as well as lessn TQ steer, but I am actually doing it so I can stop an exhaust leak.

ESMMI's are a girls best friend nothing like good vibrations mixed with a sweet exhaust note that just gets'm wet... lol lol
i had ESMMI's in my Spec AND lucy has them lol they are great, but they do vibrate but hey if you are looking for performance then you're already willing to sacrifice street civility...
