How do you guys inflate the wheel with ether??
Just spray ether and light it?
Or do you have to take the air stem out?
lmk.. they couldn't air up the 235/40 on the 9.5.. :(

if the tire is all the way on the rim it will work..
spray ether on the inside of the tire, a goo bit here.. then spray a trail leading about 4-5 ft away from the wheel, and light it..
BOOM tire is on the wheel...
check tire pressure, i have seen tires blow up before doing this..
and leave the valve stem in. that holds pressure so it can hold a bead

if its not working... use more ether in the tire.. do that and try this: after its in the tire, you have to do it soon, it will evaporate.. just use the can of ether like a torch and spray towards the tire

Actually.. We found that less is more. It just needs a small combustion to get it seated.

More room for the gas to expand, it makes sense.

Yeah, and you can't try it back to back. Because there will be too much C02 still in there for the flame to ignite.

Use a ratchet strap around the tire to squeeze it and it will help you seat the bead.

Hm, tried it again tonight after my shortblock was done..
no luck.
I think the bead isn't big enough for the tire to seal and suck in air when the ether burns.
I'm gonna have to use a ratchet strap or the bike-tube method..
And.. on some videos, I saw they connected air into the stem.. did I need to do that?

No, you don't have to do that. We got ours on the bead, then brought them to the gas station to fill up.

What the funk.
I'll give it another go tomorrow evening.
Wondering why it's not seating..
Maybe the bead seat design isn't very good on the RPF1?
It's proving to be a biatch.. guys @ the tire shop couldn't air it up with the big compressed air blower thing.

wOrd..
I still have time before the event, so I'm not sweating on the tire mounting stuff ;)
But yeah.. I don't know why it wont work..
The tire's beads must be too small? I dunno.. the fire just burns and it doesnt seat.

are u using ether & not llike intake cleaner, this will now work so make sure ur using like carb cleaner & make sure there is ether in the ingredients

I was actually just using starter fluid.
Starter fluid has ether.. so I don't see why it wouldnt work :(
It just combusts and the fire escapes out the sides.. HMMM.
I'll try that Tyler..
Does the tire have to be completely seated on the wheel surface with no room to spare?
hellfire
03-10-2008, 09:19 PM
No. Actually, if the tire is on the bead its harder becuase air can't get in to fuel the flame..
I just mounted 225/40/18's on Carina's 10's. You can do it.

Oh, and a little hint. Once you light it, kick down on the sidewall, it lets air in, it should seat right after that.

I think the trick to it is that you need to have to TOP bead fully seated..
I tried doing it where both beads were nearly on the wheel, but still had a little gap.. the fire would just escape out.
Instead, if you have the top bead completely seated against the wheel barrel, you can just light it and it'll seat.
Can't do it too many times in a row..
Maybe wait 2-3mins before attempting it twice for the carbon dioxide to completely escape the wheel.
Here's a picture:
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/6541/dscn0208cp2.jpg
235/40 on a 18x9.5.. very conservative stretch.
It makes a cooool *pop* sound when it seats, lolol.
I scratched my wheels on the backside by kicking it around on the concrete, so don't do that if you have expensive wheels you care about.
Also, expect some carbon marks if you don't get it first couple tries. Backside to one of the wheels have alot of soot on em from the ish burning.
