View Full Version : Can some plz explain tire stretching...
~The_Duke~

Why?
Is this for no small wall roll over for drifting?
Is this for fitment\cosmedic reasons?
Someone plz tell me the reason behind this, because if I have a 10" wheel I am sure as hell not going to put only a 245 on it.
I think you listed all the reasons. Less roll in the sidewall and fitments/cosmetic reasons.

bad ass ness
creates a stiffer side wall for easier sliding
and allows you to tuck the the fuck out of your gangsta wheels

Ok so my assumptions were correct...
I dunno I am always trying to squeeze the widest tire I can onto the rim not trying to see how small of a tire I can put on the rim, but then again I am grip driver so that would make sense.
I learn something new everyday lol

If I had a corvette or something, I'd look into getting 275 or 295 or something.. but I think most S chassis owners stretch for looks/fitment.
And of course, the easier breakaway when you initiate a drift.. which I've never done, so yah.

stretching is :gay:
i want more tire. better grip.
i dont think i would enjoy trying to launch and having a set of stretched 245's on a 10 spin like an open diff set of 205's on a 6.
sorry. you need some mush somewhere.

I am running 225s on a 7" wheel, I wouldnt want to run a 225 on anything wider than that.

02-28-2008, 08:40 PM
When you want to lower the car, and run larger then your pansy 7" wheel you'll understand.
You can get a larger tire, better looking wheels, and have the car lower with a simple stretch.

True, but with the way my car is designed it very very hard to get a larger wheel than an 8 or 8.5 on there. They dont exactly make wide body kits for sentras very often... lol
I dont think I will ever go wider than 8" though because it seems kinda pointless with less than 300 HP on a car that doesnt even wieght 3000 pounds.
Yes I know my stockers arent the prettist things and they are heavy as fuck and are skinny.
I will be picking up some 8" wide ones form Zenkicam tomorrow if all goes well. Tyler you got fendering rolling stuff?

Eh, I donno yet. I'm not experienced enough to roll others yet. When I know I can do it, without risk of messing up other peoples cars, I'll post up. Until then, I'll use my cars (And parts cars like above, LoL..) as practice.

I think you will always run the risk of having the fenders (s13s especially) denting in at the top of the quarter panel. There are things you can do to reduce it but I dont think you can ever guarantee it. We rolled mine with an Eastmans after warming them up with a torch. Just took our time and did several passes. No dents.
Looks, fitment and sidewall stiffness for the most part....

iirc those are 11s in the rear. I love the look of a nice stretch with the rims lip just poking out past the fender.

But I am driving a Spec V, not a 240...
babowc
02-28-2008, 09:22 PM
Yep.. buckling and shit if you pull too much too fast.
I think I'm gonna use a hammer to get rid of the lip and possibly try a newspaper pull instead of using a roller.
down_shift
02-28-2008, 09:25 PM
I like the roller because its consistent across the roll. no irregular bumps in the lip when your done. Ill probably hammer my fronts. Im already rubbing them as is.
hellfire
02-28-2008, 09:25 PM
I am going to try and cut a line across the entire under section of the fender. Then roll/pull it and see how far I can get. Carina has some new wheels coming we want to try and fit on stock body. It probably won't happen though.

Oh and MAKE SURE you clean out any rocks, etc in the lip of the fender, or they will be stuck in there and look like shit.

02-28-2008, 09:27 PM
Ya my fenders will only need rolled about 1\4 of an inch, nothing crazy like any of these pictures...
Basically just need to round out the flat part on my fenders around the edges.
hellfire
02-28-2008, 09:28 PM
The pictures aren't rolled anyways. Those are overfenders.
Tyler
babowc
02-28-2008, 09:30 PM
roll =/= pull.
roll = flattening the lips
pull = pulling the fender out
The roller would probabaly work better as far as consistency goes..
we'll see how it works out on my wheels.
Worst case scenario.. I'll go 30mm over
hellfire
02-28-2008, 09:34 PM
You can roll 30mm over. Easy.
Tyler

Tyler this is a pic of the exact wheels with 235\45 instead of a 245\45. All that I need to done is that lil flat part around the edge of the fender needs rounded out alil bit to get alil extra room. These fenders have not been touched in the pictures so I am not worried about the wheel and the tire not fitting, but when I lower the car I am going to want to run some camber and be able to atleast tuck in the rear.

Well all 4 of the tires on that car are stretched, but they look to be stretched so that they will be able to fit that width of tire under the fenders.
