Iam debating whether or not i should do the sr20 first or last because i need a new suspension, brakes, but i wanna get the engine done first because it has 198,700 miles on it and i dont want it do die while iam doing suspension but if i do the sr20 the suspensions gonna be terriable and it sounds like my rear end is going out any suggestions to what i should do first???
I would suggest doing the suspension first... Why do you think your motor is going to crap out on you at 198k? These motors are known to have a long live span if taken care of...

i didnt know that!!. i feel much better now good then ill do suspension first o yeah the stuff you guys told me to replace when i first joined fixed all my problems thx
Great!! Glad you got it fixed up :). All the little things are so important... You'll appreciate all of the suspension work sooo much when you're done. Stiffer suspension and bushings can make a slow car tons of fun to drive...
Look into coilovers, bushings, and mounts...
Coilovers are expensive but easy to install
Bushings are inexpensive but a pain in the butt (but well worth it)
Mounts (engine/tranny) are not too expensive and fairly easy to install...

First mod to my old s14 was an sr swap. I am glad I did. I had the money then for it, so instead of spending all of my money on little stuff and then trying to save for a sr, I bought the sr first and the little stuff later as I went along.
Then again, I don't drive crazy in corners. Nor do I really care to drift. I do go to drag strip pretty often though.
To each his own I guess. You may want to find 2 people that have either one and take a ride. Then the choice will be quite clear.

get suspension, itd be a waste for you to wreck your freshly swapped sr into a ditch or something.
if you need any help picking out what kind, ive had quite a few different setups on my cars. and im currently looking for what im gonna put in my s13 now

Suspension first, brakes second. SR swap on stock brakes sucks, how do I know?......... That's what I have.

Well I drove my buddy car and he just has an SR. It was just terrible. I mean sure the car was fast but when it came time to brake, turn, or avoid a wreck it was like this. http://www.badjojo.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=1996. It was not a very fun car to drive because it will be like taking a lincoln town car and throwing an ls1 in it then trying to make a quick correction on the freeway. its just not gonna happen.

me and JT just put my coilovers on today, it is seriously one of the most important aspect of a car. Handling is very very important. Do yourself a favor and do suspension first, thats what Im doing and thats how you should too.. lol no lie

Who said anything about an LS1? I think I would be more likely to cause a wreck if I had a nice suspension (which I might do that one day), because I would push my car harder. I don't drive that fast, unless someone is just wanting a ride or I deem it safe enough.

wow im in the same boat.. SR or suspension. :\... i got a crappy 90' the previous owner had cut the front spring now im rolling on front struts the rear has some gay ebay coilovers... the engine is a de from a 92-93 or something /w 188K and its running really crappy. Its rich and recently the thermostat housing broke >.> ( jb weld!!!!) ne way.
thats my dilema Sr or Suspension lol. For the sr i gotta save up a lil bit more ( college student and little part time work) and the suspension i can get one now... but if i get suspension it'd take about close to a 6-7 months to save up for the sr :\ and im not even sure if the engine would last that long.

That makes the decision a little more difficult. If you think you REALLY need the motor, I'd say get that but don't forget that you have crappy suspension once you get all that power. Dangerous combination...

totally agree. even though i like having power asap, i'd much rather be able to handle it rather than have to baby it until i get sus, brakes, w/e.
plus, going w/ non-horsepower mods first still makes it perform better

yea, i might just go with the motor for now and save up awhile for the suspension. Just so i have something reliable to drive around in, since that ka probably crapt out on me soon.

I just ordered stance coilovers, and I have a Z brake setup in my kitchen waiting to be installed. I have a STOCK ka. Next comes a clutch and a kaaz.
A fast car that is scary in the corners is no fun.

an sr20 doesnt make a car fast...
balance is what makes a car fast...

i believe so, i might have the infamous timing belt tick @_@. other than that its alright, i just dont trust that motor.. but it feels like it can take a lil more beating..... so im kinda going back and forth whether for suspension or sr :|. I'll put more thought into it after finals are over 1 more weeks !!!! ^_____^

That's why I love about those little places in between the corners. :)
A stock turbo'd SR can be faster than most people think.

Jhot? Jarco? or Nadsauto? or anyone got a better place?

i'd go sr20 before suspension. One night I was driving home and there was this e30 m3 that was driving side by side me for a while until and we came to a stop light just before my house. When the light turned green he jumped like he wanted to run so i was like fuck it. I decided not to turn into my apartment and got behind him. I started following him and then he floored it and tried to lose me in this winding road (2 lane). I was all over him in the turns and then when we came to the straight (4 lane) i waxed his ass. I HAVE NO SUSPENSION
This is why.

Jarco is a great source if you go with a company vs. a private seller.
